It was alright. Pretty big compared to other groceries in Footscray area but I prefer their North Melbourne branch. This shop has less range and it's slightly more run down. Having said that, they have a bit of Korean and Japanese food. Also a meat section and fresh vegetables isle. There's a public parking at the back of the store.
Has most things you'll want for your Asian home cooking pursuits and even most small restaurants needs. A little dirty though, and the lack of drink choices is bad.
I've been supporting KFL for many years and usually frequent the Kensington store who are wonderful. I went to the Footscray store today with my 7 month old son in his pram. Like most people leaving negative reviews, I also experienced the rude older female cashier at the front desk. She checked my pram twice and tried to check behind my child. I was extremely uncomfortable as she was wearing ripped and dirty single use gloves, rifling through my baby's supplies. Which will now all need to be sanitised. It was a mortifying experience and I sadly will not be returning. As someone who has worked in the retail industry for many years, I completely understand the need to check bags but touching personal belongings and checking behind a 7 month old baby?! crosses the line. I won't ever step foot in that store again.
Amazing, large store, with a huge range of fresh fruit and vege, and every ingredient you could possibly need to cook up a storm! Very good prices too! I'll be a regular here for sure!
On its best days, it is okay. Stuff is always out of stock. Kensington is way better.
Check out lady who thinks everyone is a thief. There was one time where I have left my shopping trolley near the check out counter and went into the store to do my shopping. After I paid for my goods and went to get my shopping trolley, she still had to check my trolley .
Shopped in the store on Saturday and very angry with the cashier at the rear door. extremely bad customer facing attitude, yelled at me "you can don't buy the rice and go away!" after complaining the high price or rice it increased from $55ish to $78 per 25KG. As a customer of the store for 5 years. i am very angry and try my best not to visit your store any more to avoid seeing your rude cashier! Besides, the rest cashiers and workers in the store are reasonably good
Decent variety but the rude lady at the cash register really puts me off going there. She always goes through my bags so suspiciously, even though I've just bought stuff from there. If I was going to steal something, I probably wouldn't be spending money there! Reading the other reviews I know it's not just me that gone through this, but still, it's so over the top! The lady at the butcher counter has her days as well.
Well stocked grocer and I used to come often. But in recent months one lady normally at the front checkout has been extremely aggressive about checking bags for shoplifting. I have spent thousands of dollars at this store and came in most weeks—I'm recognised by the cashier at the back! I spend good amounts of money each time and get accused of trying to steal $2 worth of vegetables that I've bought from the market? What a great way to turn away customers. I'm going to go to one of the countless other Asian grocers in the area. I'll only come here for very specific items. To be honest, it's very difficult to find things and the aisles are not arranged logically.
Super poor customer experiences I just had. The checkout ladies old lady, middle aged and young adult are ALL very rude. First of all, the products are not correctly labelled with prices or have no price tags available on shelves. This is super misleading where I go to pick up some tofu where the price tags around say $2-4. But when you check out, you can’t see their screen which shows the actual prices. Looked at my receipt and this tofu was almost $10? I asked for a refund and they said No refunds only exchanges. I asked to go get a price check as the labels clearly mislead me, they go check and they see no prices for this $10 TOFU? I speak to them in an appropriate manner and ask where the $10 price tag is. They get the middle aged chinese lady involved and she is FIRM on the $10 price and starts arguing with me in chinese. Hello where is the customer service?? I get it chinese people are RUDE because I come from the same culture BUT IF YOU ARE RUNNING A BUSINESS YOU SHOULD BE NICE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO ARE TRYING TO SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS DURING THIS PANDEMIC. And keep in mind, being in a asian suburb, the SUPERMARKET GIANTS ALL STOCK ASIAN FOODS. I CAN EASILY GO SHOP THERE. Oh and I got my refund, and I told the middle aged lady that is what I wanted from the start, and she said “NO WORRY I GIVE U REFUND IF U NO HAPPY OKAY”. Like cmon, telling customers no refunds allowed but then suddenly allowing it. This could have been avoided at the start. ALSO telling customers no refunds is actually illegal and goes against the ACL. LOOK IT UP. I’ve been coming to this specific KFL for over 10 years. Mainly when I was a kid with my parents but now that I live in Footscray I’ve been coming here more often by myself. BUT NOT ANYMORE. I am all for supporting local businesses and I will continue to do so at OTHER asian groceries in Footscray. I understand this is a family owned business but maybe y’all should get family therapy and work on your anger management and how to talk to people.
