I didn’t buy anything I was walking out they closed the exit door and asked the Asian lady her colleague no stocking means if I stolen anything than he opened door for me to exit. They hurt my feeling I’ll never go there again.
I had a very upsetting experience at this Coles location. Despite arriving 17 minutes before closing time, my companion and I were rushed by the security guard who was incredibly rude and dismissive. The sales assistant on the floor made us feel judged and unwelcome, and her behavior came across as blatantly racist.nnTo make things worse, when we tried to get assistance multiple times, the sales assistant on the floor couldn’t hear us because the security guard was busy having a loud personal argument—apparently with his mother, according to the sales assistant. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable in a public-facing role.nnThe sales assistant was nosy asking what me and my companion were talking in our language and was trying to justify for the security guard by being rude to us which was none of her concern.nnIf Coles is open until a certain time, customers should be treated with respect up until that time. No one should feel unwelcome, especially due to race or background. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses both the poor customer service and the inappropriate conduct of staff.
Last Wednesday27th NovemberI went to Coles to buy a celebrity gift card because they were offering a 10% discount at the time. I was planning to buy an iPhone 16 and thought I could use this celebrity gift card to purchase it at Officeworks.nnWhen I arrived at Coles , I picked up ten celebrity gift cards from the shelf: seven $200 cards and three $100 cards. I remembered that each person could buy up to ten gift cards. However, when I went to the checkout counter, a female staff member her name is Kat told me that I could only purchase two cards and that they had to be $100 cards.nnI told her that if I could only buy two cards, I would like the two $200 ones instead. She said that wasn’t allowed and insisted that I could only buy two $100 cards. I asked her why, but since my English isn’t very good, she chose not to explain anything further. I called a friend who speaks better English to talk to her, but over the phone, she directly told my friend that there was no specific reason and refused to provide any explanation.nnI was very upset and decided not to buy the two $100 cards. I left the supermarket, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that she was clearly discriminating against me because of my limited English. I went online to look up the Coles catalog, which stated that each person could buy up to five gift cards.nnI returned to the checkout counter and asked another staff member why the catalog said five cards but I was only allowed to buy two. This staff member said they didn’t know why but could sell me five cards if I wanted. However, by that time, all the $200 gift cards had disappeared. I told the staff member that I had just left, and not even a minute had passed. If someone had bought all seven $200 cards in one transaction, they should be able to check the transaction records, and I would accept that result. However, if there was no transaction record and it turned out the staff had hidden the cards, I would have to conclude that Coles was engaging in false advertising and did not intend to sell the gift cards as advertised.nnWhen the manager came out, their explanation was that there were only $100 cards available. I asked them to check the surveillance footage, which would show that I had indeed picked up $200 cards earlier. They said they couldn’t check the footage. I then stated my intent to file a complaint. Only then did the manager change their tone and suggest going to the office to see if they could find any $200 cards for me.nnBy that point, I was already too angry and said that I would rather not buy the cards anymore, but I was determined to file a formal complaint. Recently, I have been very busy with work, but now I finally have time to write down my complaint.
If you wanna see the dystopian future of supermarkets, I advise you check this diabolical prototype!nnThey don’t have one ‘manned’ counter, in other words - a checkout with a human being scanning your purchases. Just one which functions as a smoke counter / refund counter.nInstead of actual checkouts, they’ve got the usual self serve section and more self serve sections with a conveyor belt kinda handy for bigger purchases. Hard to juggle all your stuff on those little S.S. Registers.nnYet, the employees at the ‘front of house’ seem to be acting as security guards now. Rather than actively helping people scan their items and so forth, they spend their days sanitising the said S.S. Checkouts and watching you like a hawk. After confirming that you’re not a thief, they’ll press the green button and let you outside.nnI’m not knocking the employee’s of this establishment, they’ve got no choice in the matter, to earn their wages. Yet, we all know Coles & Woolworths are evil corporations who have no regard for the consumer.nnThough I can’t help but note, when a team member is constantly watching you as you scan your items, it feels a bit awkward. If there was a designated counter with a ‘checkout chick’ then perhaps they wouldn’t have to do this.nThey do have all the essentials though, you’ll find what you’re looking for. Par customer service.nnAnyway, the future of shopping is here! And jobs in the retail sector being automated and culled in number.n2 stars: still better than the discount pharmacy in the same shopping centre, they’re unbelievably lousy!
Nice new shopping centre but the entrance to Coles is not done well. They need to ŕedesign the layout to make all ships inclusive.
