After seeing some pretty ordinary reviews wasn't expecting much. However was very pleasantly surprised. Rooms while a bit old were quite comfortable. Nice pool and garden area. Big bar area with food available and live music the night we were there. Bough restaurant was great. Lovely staff and service and top meal. Staff in the hotel could not be more helpful, it was really nice to have people interested in your stay. Would stay there again, particularly for the price, compared to the other resorts in Yulara.

The Outback Pioneer offers a basic but perfectly adequate service for a short stay. Staff are all cheerful and friendly and we appreciated the fact that our room was available right away, but see below on this. Food is expensive and although plentiful, we would have preferred more modest meals at a lower price. Also fresh fruit would have been very welcome. The free shuttle bus that goes round the resort is useful. The resort itself is easily exhausted and unless you are very interested in hiking, three days are more than enough for a visit. Our room was cleaned every day, but the bathroom needed a much more thorough treatment. The bath had many unsightly limescale streaks and the lavatory was horrible, with brown stains at the back and the waterline. This needs an in-depth soaking with bleach and a limescale remover. Before a room is allocated it should be properly checked by a manager. We wouldn't have minded waiting a while for the room when we arrived if it had been properly cleaned.

Accommodations were basic but it felt like it was not often cleaned. The door in our room was broken so there was a gap that let a lot of moths in. Clearing them out became an annoying daily routine. Location in the resort was one of the farthest away from Town square. It's a 10-15 minute walk but in the desert heat, even a short walk becomes difficult. Most of the staff were excellent, they really went out of there way to make help you as much as possible. Every now and then you interacted with someone less than friendly or helpful. There are two options at the hotel for lunch or dinner ranging from moderate to expensive. The only option for breakfast is an expensive buffet, if you want a simple sandwich, you'll have to walk to town square because the shuttle buses don't begin until 10:30am (and you don't want to be out in the sun at that time).

I broke my ankle a week out from my trip. The staff were wonderful and accommodated me in a room close to the main facilities and with my own bathroom - above and beyond. Good, clean and basic room too. Thanks so much!

Excellent accommodation especially when you think of the low price of the lodge. The room was clean, linens, shower facilities as well. Nice place to meet new people, also. People are more open to strangers as we all are travellers! Employees were helpful. Nice place to eat and/or cook.
