Went for the 3 course lunch, 'winter season special menu' for £18. The food was roasting hot, well presented & very tasty. Will definitely go back & and I would highly recommend it to anyone. They have vegetarian options on the menu. Staff were very attentive & friendly.Service: 5/5
Throughout my evening I was made to feel very welcome from the manager Michael, nothing less than exceptional service by attending to our every need - always has a smile on his face! Hotel had a great atmosphere, however decor in the bar is 55 years out of date and due an upgrade. Due to the professionalism and dedication shown by management, I will definitely be back. I can see Michael runs a tight ship with a great team supporting him.
Rooms not rated as visiting for a meal only. Big group of us including 3 children, Food was really good, plenty to choose from kids portions were very generous. Highly recommended Food & drinks: Good, attentive service for a table of nine. Large menu choice, reasonable prices food well presented and tasty
A most enjoyable stay. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast excelled with a wide choice of local products including local fish. The evening meal was equally as good. Highly recommended as a lovely place to stayRooms: 5/5
Absolutely stunning food We had the valentines menu, the baked salmon was out of this world. Service was excellent. Thank you, we will definitely be returning
In Jun of 1988, my wife and I celebrated our first anniversary here. I had Lamb with mint sauce. It became the standard that we compare all of our anniversary dinners.Service: 5/5
Stopped for afternoon coffee. Reception unmanned and no staff found until in back bar. Carpets in entrance very grubby and heavily tracked. Reception untidy, unwelcoming. Piped music loud and echoing in space. Staff looked like customers no dress code or badges to distinguish . Although friendly enough, just felt this hotel lacked character and professionalism.
After a 10hr drive up to the most Northern part of the UK, arriving here was not only more than what I had hoped for, but comfort of exactly what I needed. Photos won't do it justice. This hotel is in immaculate condition and well looked after, which makes it constantly look like it was only renovated yesterday. Scottish hotels have a tenancy for being a bit "tired" part of their charm/history I suppose so this was completely unexpected. Fresh room, plenty of space. Felt very comfortable, with beautiful views from the room. The room while modern in design, was cosy while being very functional, bedside lights were all exactly as useful as you'd always hope sidelights to be, plugs on either side of the bed with USB chargers, plentiful wardrobe space, good warm heating, and even had hot chocolate!! The bathroom is modern and presented very well. The restaurant area is spacious and fresh while feeling cosy and well looked after. Breakfast was REALLY good every morning. Portions were huge, but good quality and delicious. I can understand why non-residents also come here for lunch and dinner. Service from staff throughout the entire stay was perfect. It's also perfectly located for access to the 4 main reasons to be up in this part of the UK: Just at the entrance to Dunnet Head Short drive to John O Groats Short drive to Thurso And on the route of the NC500. As well as Duncansby Lighthouse furthest point of UK, Duncansby Stacks, Dunnet Beach, Dunnet Head Nature Reserve, the Dark Skies for viewing Aurora yes, I got to see it at 2am!, and of course views of Orkneys! The road in front of the hotel was very quiet. Peaceful surroundings. With a pleasing view of the vast and active Dunnet Beach. Great car park at the side of hotel. You'll understand when you use it. There is so much more to say, but I'd like to keep it simple: Would I stay again? Absolutely! Room Type : Standard King Double Rateplan : Bed & Breakfast Stay : Feb 2023 Rooms: Large comfortable kingsize bed, lovely duvets and soft covers. Plenty wardrobe space. Very pleasing lighting. Functional space and facilities. Sockets all have USB points Hot drinks stand includes Hot Chocolate!! Lovely wetroom. Very well presented l, lots of space. Beautiful Views. Nearby activities: Dunnet Head lighthouse Most Northern point of UK Short drive to John O Groats Short drive to Thurso route of the NC500. As well as Duncansby Lighthouse furthest point of UK, Duncansby Stacks, Dunnet Beach vast quiet beach Dunnet Head Nature Reserve loads of birds Dark Skies for viewing Aurora Views of Orkneys! Safety: Just don't fall off the cliff edges! Can't think of anything unsafe. Noteworthy details: Need to come back again.
