Had an amazing lamb roast at Mount Erica Hotel! The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and generous portions. Paired with a few great beers and wines, it made for the perfect Sunday lunch. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, especially sitting near the fire. Friendly staff, great vibes, and a classic pub experience done right. Will definitely be back!
On a warm Prahran night at tram stop 35, the kind where the air carries a little promise and just enough mischief the Mount Erica Hotel leans into its reputation like an old prizefighter. Not steak night Tuesday, but it doesn’t matter. This place still knows how to land a punch. Established in 1853 and rebuilt after fire had its go, it’s lived a life. And after a sharp resurrection by the Marquis of Lorne crew, it now wears that history like a tailored suit instead of a dusty relic.nnWe took to the garden refreshing, open, alive. Orders at the bar, pints poured with intent. Inside? Heaving. Properly heaving. The kind of Monday crowd that quietly reminds you: book next time.nnThe food doesn’t posture. It delivers.nnFlash fried calamari tender, crisp, spice and lemon cutting clean through. Lamb rump with fondant potato and pepper purée rich, composed, the kind of plate that slows the conversation. A 500g ribeye was ordered, but a 200g eye fillet landed instead beautifully cooked, no complaints there, just undergunned for a growing footballer with serious appetite. So, round two: schnitzel golden, unapologetic paired with a horseradish slaw that brought everything into focus. Then a 300g scotch fillet for the other 6’5” unit slightly past medium, but still carrying that smoky, charred edge you come here for.nnThe taps? Outstanding. Proper beer. Cold, sharp, poured like it matters.nnService stays composed, even when things wobble. Polite, switched on, never flustered.nnThis isn’t just a pub. It’s Prahran distilled history, noise, locals, and just enough polish to make it feel like a boys night out, not a stop along the way. Next time, I’m ordering the 500g ribeye… and guarding it like it’s mine alone.
Someone recommended this place to me ages ago, and I finally had time to try the steak! nnOverall, it was good. I’d definitely come back to try other dishes.nnBut I’m still a little confused about one thing…nThe restaurant had plenty of comfortable empty tables available, yet we were seated right near the wine bottles by the walkway, where staff kept walking past our heads the whole time nnMaybe it was nothing… but part of me wondered if it was because we’re Asian? nnI’ll give it another try though. And if it really feels that way… I might have to come back and reduce a star
Went for Tuesday steak night $26 a it did not disappoint. Service was friendly, quick and the Medium rare steak was cooked perfectly. It was delicious, soft, juicy and great flavour. Salad was some kind of slaw with a kick to it, maybe horseradish or wasabi not sure. Chips were plentiful had good crunch and good flavour. I left feeling very satisfied and I will be going back for sure!
The Mount Erica Hotel is an absolute local gem! It has such a fantastic, welcoming vibe, but the real standout here is the incredible food.nWe started with a few entrees, and every single one was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. For the main, I had the seafood pasta with prawns, and it was stunning—rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and packed with fresh, high-quality seafood. Just an amazing dish. Make sure you save room for dessert, too, because it was a total highlight and the perfect way to finish the meal.nIt’s rare to find a neighborhood pub that delivers restaurant-quality food across the entire menu while keeping that relaxed, cozy atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole night great. I'm so lucky to have this place close by—highly recommend!
