Last year I took my dog in with a torn cruciate ligament. After an initial consultation, I was told that surgery was going to cost $5k with a 50% chance that the other leg would also go in future, due to weight dependency. A potential total of $10k in surgery fees. She was prescribed some pain medication to help her manage, and I told the vet that I needed time to think about whether I would go ahead with surgery, as I was very overwhelmed. I knew I couldn't keep my dog judging on those costs, and was incredibly upset at the situation. I received phone calls to "check how she was going", but didn't sense any real genuineness about the phone calls, rather a sense to get on with the costly surgery. I felt pressured and a picture was painted that surgery was dependent on her life. Based on the location of the vet surgery (in one of Gold Coast's richest suburbs), I'm sure many clients would happily go ahead with expensive surgical procedures without blinking an eye. After calling my mum's vet in Ipswich (lower demo-graphical area) I was quoted $1.5k for the exact same surgical procedure as described by the vet in Mermaid Waters. Luckily I was able to heal her leg through conservative management, and avoided surgery, however I would not return to this vet for any future treatment based on my experience.

Fantastic Vet Surgery, our dogs are our life and we wouldn't take them anywhere else. Dr. Christine is great as are the nursing staff.

A dear friend of mine who is an animal lover, cared for an injured lorikeet, she felt it was good to release but wanted a vet to check it out before hand.  She rang 6 different vets, not one was willing to help her, then as luck would have it, when she had almost given up she called Mermaid Vet Clinic, offered to pay  as she had at each and every other vet she had called,  by this stage was quite distressed.  The amazing staff there told her to bring in the bird the next day.
When she arrived the staff were very helpful the vet checked out the bird assured her he was good to go, didn't charge her, didn't think she was a crazy person knew instinctively that she was just an animal lover.
In todays world this vet practice IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

Excellent! Dr. Christine was very caring and gentle with my toy poodle, consultation fee was normal even though she took time to explain to me that didn't need to spend the money by taking an aggressive approach. She even asked me to call if the problem wasn't cleared up in a day and she would leave the meds at the counter for pickup. The other vet i have been to in the area would've taken the opportunity to charge for another consult! I would highly recommend this Vet clinic.
