Story

Meatmaiden is a Melbourne CBD basement restaurant & bar bringing select cuts of meat to the people. We specialise in BBQ, Grill, Craft Beer & Cocktails. Meatmaiden's barbecue hero is the custom-built, wood-burning smoker we brought over from the States. She's kept lit with ironbark from the Blue Mountains and produces our very popular, signature 20-hour smoked Rangers Valley Black Label 5+ Score brisket. We dry age in house before our steaks hit the grill and hang premium, local meat produce such as grass-fed O'Connor bone-in porterhouse for up to 40 days to pack in maximum tenderness and flavour. Each week we also offer rotating special cuts such as Kobe beef or Robbins Island Wagyu, packed with marbling and loads of flavour. We reckon we deliver the best BBQ and Grill in Melbourne. There's also plenty of good drinks, pre-dinner or post-dinner, in our two bars with six taps of craft beer, eclectic cocktails and a sharp, locally-focused wine list. We are open for lunch and dinner, Monday to Saturday. We also offer a $30 Express Lunch (Meat Xpress) lunch deal for CBD workers which includes a starter, side, main and a drink. Our current menu includes steak frites, fried chicken and braised beef cheek. Our venue seats up to 120 people and is perfect for business lunches, client lunches, catching up with friends, family, an intimate dinner or group dinner or just late night drinks and bar snacks. We can cater for large groups and are available for semi-private and private functions for those special occasions. We keep it casual and relaxed and focus on you having the best lunch or dinner experience. Located in the basement of the historic Georges Building on Little Collins Street, we service the greater Melbourne city area including North Melbourne, Fitzroy, Carlton, Collingwood, Cremorne, Richmond, South Melbourne and West Melbourne.

"Basement restaurant and bar in the heart of Melbourne's CBD bringing select cuts of meat to the people. At Meatmaiden, classic American steakhouse and smokehouse dishes are reimagined, reinterpreted and twisted. We source the best local produce for our custom-built grill and wood-fired smoker and take a modern approach to barbecue."

Such a cool place located in the lower ground level of a building. I’d highly recommend the unassuming bread on the menu which is the best thing I’ve tasted in a while. The burnt ends was flavorful and soft and the 20hr brisket was melt in your mouth tender. The dishes are on the hearty side, so come with a big appetite!
Thought this would be a super meat heavy menu restaurant but was pleasantly surprised with not only their variety, but the quality of the variety! We did the festive food menu and it was so worthwhile for both the value and quality - we also ended up with very full stomachs too! The service was so friendly and we will definitely be back again at our next chance! Favourites were the scallops, sticky lamb and lobster mac and cheese!
Our group had dinner at Meatmaiden on our last night in Melbourne! It was definitely a meal to remember. I'll miss it when I'm back home. Delicious food, at a reasonable price. Love the ambience of the place too. Do make a reservation before coming.
Photos don’t do justice! This place was so good. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff here are so friendly and welcoming. Dry aged steak was delicious couldn’t fault anything. Highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks for a good experience. We will definitely be back Recommended dishes400g Dry-Aged O'Connor Rib Eye 4 Score
The meat at this place is amazing. The brisket was so tender, juicy and flavourful. We ordered the chef’s selection menu and it was great. A few okay things were that some dishes were overly salted, some dishes salad, mac & cheese, oysters w/watermelon were just mediocre. If you love oysters, just get the regular ones, they were really good. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is great as well.
Amazing service, the waiting staff truly make you feel cared for. Steak and sides were all also extremely well crafted and high quality. Lobster mac and cheese is very filling and definitely enough for two people. Burnt ends was fatty and tangy. Porterhouse steak was very large and very tasty.
Me and my partner hadn't been out somewhere nice in a long while so this dinner was a welcome release. After apprehensively walking down some stairs we found ourselves in a very nice, dimly lit in a good way restaurant. We sat down and ordered some cocktails which were amazing. We ordered the meatmaiden mood may not be the exact name meal where we get a selection from each part of the menu. All the food was amazing, the steak and brisket we had for the mains were perfectly cooked and tender. All the sides and entrees were equally great. On top of the great food and vibe, the staff were great, our waitress was super friendly and stopped a couple of times to have a good chat. We will definitely be back.
Extremely pleased with my meal here. The star of the show was the burnt ends and lobster mac and cheese. If you get anything, make sure it is those two dishes. I would give the brisket a skip, I don’t think they do this well compared to a full blown American barbecue restaurant. The steaks were also cooked to perfection, but of course, this is personal preference and they didn’t actually ask me how I would like my steak.
Not bad for Saturday night. Simple menu. Extensive list for drinks. - well done. Start with the ROAST CHICKEN CROQUETTES - it was ok. Burnt ends tasted nice. The big stake was really good. Surprisingly all sauces were delicious, but still opted for the hot English mustard. Also had the brisket which was a bit of a let down. Somewhat too tender and it was just not to my taste. At the end we had the RUM CREME CARAMEL, SMOKED PINEAPPLE & LIME SORBET. Full of flavour and life. Could be served in a patisserie.
We had a booth when we dined at Meatmaiden and the wait staff were kind enough to wish us a happy anniversary. The food was lovely and our ultimate favourite was their brisket - amazingly cooked and the flavours were fantastic. We were also pleasantly surprised with their iconic lobster mac and cheese. everything was just so nice and filling we had to take the leftovers home! The ambience was also quite nice. However The waiter assisting us didn’t give us a lot of time to look at the menu before coming back to ask for food and drinks. Also at the end of the night, we waited a bit at the host station to pay and as the host was coming back, another couple randomly came up and were seen first which we felt a little unfair but really wasn’t damaging to the night.
