Wow! I was just looking for some Chinese food but didn’t expect this when I walked in! Service is superb and the food as well! First time I get wonton soup served in a silver bowl. Very nice restaurant and probably the best Chinese cuisine you will find in Tasmania!
My husband and I have eaten in numerous Chinese restaurants all over Australia and South-East Asia but Me Wah in Launceston was definitely an experience to remember!nMe Wah embodies everything that is quintessential about Chinese restaurants but done to the highest of standards. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and showed to our table straightaway. What struck us the most was the crowd that night, from families to couples to groups of friends - everyone looked like they were having the best time and all their as well as ours needs were met with and served to straightaway with the most genuine of smiles and courteous of mannerisms.nThe food - was absolutely amazing, fresh and tasty! So much so that we immediately cancelled a dinner booking we had for a different restaurant so we could come back and sample the rest of the menu the following night! We definitely recommend the entree scallops, Aberdeen fish fillets, Mount Buddha chicken, sweet and sour pork which in my opinion, was one of the best I’ve had since coming to Australia and I’ve had A LOT of sweet and sour pork over the years and truffle mushrooms.nDo yourself a favour - do not pass on the chicken consommé because it is truly the epitome of traditional boiled soup that feeds the soul.nAnd yes, leave room for dessert because the salted caramel sauce drizzled into the peanut parfait and the mango sorbet on apple lychee granita will complete the dining experience!nKudos to Stanley and his team at Me Wah Launceston for providing us with one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time and please continue to do what you’re doing! You are truly an institution in Launceston and we look forward to coming back to you soon!
The customer service was on point, which is a big deal for a Chinese joint. The staff was super friendly and observant very rare for a Chinese restaurantnnNow let's talk about the food. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, lo hon jai, and Mt. Buddha chicken, and they were all yummy. The sweet and sour pork had that perfect tangy-sweet combo could've improved by being more tangy and adding cucumber, while the lo hon jai was a veggie and tofu medley that got the flavours right. And don't even get me started on the Mt. Buddha chicken—it was really tasty with the sweet sour and salty vinegar sauce.nnHowever, sadly the ee fu noodle was a bit of a letdown. I mean, seriously, it was a rip-off. The portion was tiny, and there was hardly any crab meat in there. I was pretty bummed out about it, to be honest. It didn't live up to the rest of the meal. And hence reducing 1 star.nnBut overall, it was a decent experience. And definitely one of the better asian restaurants in this small city. They did not charge for takeaway containers and chilli which was a pleasant surprise and makes the experience better because the prices of the dishes were already expensive enough!
Impeccable. From the booking on the phone thank you for being so patient and polite when getting my name and surname on the phone phonetically spelled : to service and amazing food at the restaurant .. We definitely felt looked after with outmost care by every staff. Loved that the tea pot was put into a special bowl under a material napkin and little tea cup was put into a special little bowl saucer. Our scallop entree to share was separated onto two plates for each of us to enjoy. All dishes were absolutely delicious and each flavour was unique. Our waiter managed to clear all items after mains in one go, that’s impressive and professional. We definitely will be back to try more dishes and desserts, as we were too full for desserts this time.
