Anarchist bookshop, library and organising space in Sydney. Non-profit, volunteer-run and fighting for freedom and equality since 1977.
Jura Books is on the land of the Wangal people of the Eora Nation. The Jura Collective acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the Land and pays our respect to Elders past and present. We support the ongoing struggle of Aboriginal people for land rights, self-determination, and justice.
At Jura, we are working to create a radically different world: one based on freedom, equality and justice for everyone, as well as environmental sustainability for all life on the planet. We believe this can only be achieved by an organised and politically conscious social movement, based on participatory democracy and workers control. Our collective aims to help to build this movement.
We seek to bring the ideas of anarchism to ever-widening circles of people, through selling and lending books, and many other political activities.
We also try to prefigure and nurture alternative social structures through the structures and activities of our collective. This means creating a physical and social space that is liberating, safe, imbued with anarchist politics, and a joy to be in.
We invite you to join us! Come along to one of our events or stop by and browse the books anytime we're open (if you're making a special trip, please call ahead to double-check that we're open - we're all volunteers.)
We appreciate likes and shares on our Facebook page, but even better, please check out our website (http://www.jura.org.au) and sign up to our monthly email (http://eepurl.com/GKs5j). These are better ways to stay in touch than Facebook, with it's restrictive editorial control and pro-capitalist agenda.
