This amazing bookshop has something for everyone. 

Located near the Queen Victoria Building it is easily accessible by public transport. 

The shop itself is divided into an upstairs and downstairs area. 

Upstairs is the true gold mine though - it has one of the biggest collections of scifi, fantasy and similar books I've ever come accross in a shop - putting most Australian  libraries to shame.

The store also has a large language section for those looking to broaden their linguistic abilities. 

I'd say prices are reasonable. With books costing on average 20 dollars for a paperback. 

Staff are friendly and helpful. They often want to interact with you about your purchase on checkout.  They are able to order books on if they don't have them. 

That said if you would like help you may have to approach them .

This is a great bookstore.  I love SciFi and they have a huge selection.  Make sure you check out both floors.  If all bookstores focused on books, instead of coffee, maybe they wouldn't be closing down.  Prices were a bit higher than I expected, but I think that was because I am used to US prices.

Favorite place to buy a book. Staff knows almost every book and when asking for a suggestion, they take their time to really help you out. Huge amount of books and place to go for language books!

Great bookshop. Huge variety. Staff are generally helpful, when available. I want to go back and have another browse, I found a few little gems last visit.

This is my go-to independent bookshop. It has the best selection of crime fiction and non-fiction in Sydney. 

It is worth signing up for their online ‘Crime Chronicle’ monthly newsletter (they also have newsletters for their regular fiction and non-fiction, and their SciFi and Fantasy). They have a loyalty scheme which helps offset the book buying addiction :-) and are happy to order in books if they are not in stock. They also have an efficient online portal that will post out books as well.

The store in York Street is on two levels with Language books (including ESL) and Galaxy (Fantasy, YA and Sci Fi) on the top floor, and Non-Fiction, Reference books, Poetry, Children’s, Travel, Fiction (both Literate and mainstream) and my beloved Crime on the ground level. 

The staff are knowledgeable and quick to help when asked but don’t interrupt your contented browsing, which is the perfect combo for me. As mentioned by others, they stock a hugely diverse range of books so it is well worth a visit, and so close to the QVB and Town Hall too, so not hard to find.

They turn 50 this year (2018), long may they reign!
