Story

Holgate Brewhouse is a small, independent, family-owned brewery in Woodend, Victoria, Australia. The brewery operations began in 1999 and were moved to the Keatings Hotel in 2005, where the Brewhouse also operates a restaurant and hotel. Holgate beers are available in bottles and on tap throughout the Melbourne area.Their beers have consistently won accolades at the Australian International Beer Awards, including gold medals for the Mt Macedon Ale and Pilsner, as well as the 2008 Premier's Trophy for Best Victorian Beer for the Big Reg Lager.

Friendly and informative staff, good beer and good selection of food to accompany that. Ordered the chicken schnitzel which was over cooked and was a little hard although I like the crust. Tasty no doubt but they could have not over fried the chicken. Wife ordered the soft shell crab burger which was delicious but again I thought the buns were over done. All crumbly unless it’s meant to be like that. Never the less, the selection of beer compensates that. I’d be back again, this could be a one off situation. 😬 Overall 6.5/10.

Went to Holgate Brewhouse after spending the entire day walking along mountain trails at Mt Macedon. The Mt Macedon Pale Ale was the perfect answer to a hard day's work. Delicious IPA beer with the right amount of hop bitters. $20 beer taste platter was also great vale as you get to try 8 different locally brewed beers all with their own unique tastes.

Leaves a lot to be desired. Started out well, my wife booked a table for 10 adults and 2 children plus 2 high chairs for lunch six weeks ago, only to have Ryan ring on the morning of our booking to inform us that they had overbooked the high chairs and there was none available. After hearing we were also staying there the night, eventually found us one. Arrived, had a few beers, which were excellent, went in to our table for lunch. Ordered lunch, which included starters, very basic food, not even up to pub standard. When the mains arrived, we queried where were the starters were, only to be informed that they had forgotten them, at least they refunded our money. Rest of the day uneventful, tried many of their lovely beers, went Chinese for tea, once bittern twice shy. Went up to our rooms to go to bed, only to find one couple was sleeping on a futon bed, that speaker every time you moved. Got up Sunday morning, went to breakfast, how could they stuff up bacon and eggs. Three of our group ordered runny poached eggs with their bacon, what did they get, may as well have been hard boiled. Had to feel for the staff, who had to apologise for all these inconveniences.

Well if you like cold chips and steak you would enjoy your meal here, the other five people dining with me also thought their meals were well below basic pub average. One star was kind.

Always loved coming here, fantastic beer and staff. Took off a point as I noticed the menu has cut down and lost my favourite but the prices have shot way up. Come here for a beer...but eat beforehand
