Story

Holgate Brewhouse is a small, independent, family-owned brewery in Woodend, Victoria, Australia. The brewery operations began in 1999 and were moved to the Keatings Hotel in 2005, where the Brewhouse also operates a restaurant and hotel. Holgate beers are available in bottles and on tap throughout the Melbourne area.Their beers have consistently won accolades at the Australian International Beer Awards, including gold medals for the Mt Macedon Ale and Pilsner, as well as the 2008 Premier's Trophy for Best Victorian Beer for the Big Reg Lager.

stayed in Woodend for a long weekend of wine tasting and visited the Holgate Brewhouse a number of times. We had dinner on the first night and it was excellent. I had the outstanding wagyu burger and my friend had the pork which he said was delicious. They run happy hour each night from 5-7pm. The place gets busy in those two hours. You can get a pint of any of their range for only $8 during happy hour. A great bargain. Large beer garden out the front where you can watch the world go by. Beer garden is also dog friendly. Staff are super nice and the service is great. They have a large range of excellent beers on tap. Wine list is limited if you are not a beer drinker. It is a brewhouse after all! I tried 8 of the beers. All were great. I really enjoyed the pilsner and the IPA. It's a really nice building and the bar has an English pub feel to it. When I was there it was full of poms drowning their sorrows after another Ashes shellacking.
We had a great lunch and sampled a few beers.nThe Japanese style 3.5% alchohol is a cracking brew.nWe also tried the sours which are really good.nWill definitely go back again and stay a night and try ther full list of beers.
The Mt Macedon pale beer is the best I have had and the room was very cosy. Will def come back again! I paid $13 a pint and $11 for a big bowl of excellent chips with aioli sauce and ketchup.
We always enjoy our dining experience at Holgate's. Our meals on Saturday night were delicious with prompt service.nThe food is excellent as are the black beers on tap.nA choice of Porter and Stout. A dilemma really, so I had to have both. Very few pubs offer this. It's also getting harder to find a pub roast. We had this and the rump steak.
We had such a great meal. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Had the chicken Parma and Lamb Shank both were good value and tasty.
