The K Road Haka House is great! I stayed for a week and found it to have everything I require at an accommodation. The majority of the staff are friendly and helpful; one guy who was on reception for a couple of days during the middle of my stay probably needs to go do something else for a job bc asking him a simple question about where I'd find something was almost like I'd asked him to remove his arm for me. But all the other reception were great.nnI stayed in a solo room, and the bed and pillows were more comfortable than some hotels I've stayed in. Everything was clean, and the room was spacious.nnThe facilities are also good and clean. Showers were cleaned multiple times a day, and the kitchen was set up well and always clean when I went in.nnI loved that it was on K road; it's well located to get around Auckland, and I appreciated having so many places open at night around as there were always people about. There are clubs / pubs on the street, so some nights can get noisy, but I found that with the fan on in the room, it drowned out any noise coming up from the streets, with the window open. There are lots of great places to eat and get groceries in close proximity, too.nnI'd definitely stay there again.
The hostel is very good! I stayed for a few days. The staff is very friendly. The facilities are good and clean. The kitchen is next to the common area so it's easy to meet and talk to people, the bathrooms are good and clean! The hostel has a house style which was really cool. It is on K road, so it is well located, I didn't have/saw any problems with this street. The only point of attention is that one of the bedrooms is exactly next to the TV room and depending on the bed you are in, it can be a little noisy!
Kitchen cupboards were very crowded but adequate.nMain problem with this hostel is the presence nearby of homeless people, drunkards and drug addicts some of whom were dealing at the hostel's front door.
I stayed in the 20 bed dorm, which was actually okay considering that the room is huge and split up into „corners“, so it doesn‘t feel like a 20 bed dorm.nBut my bed didn‘t have a curtain or locker underneath. The ventilation doesn‘t get into all the corners either, plus there are people smoking right in front of the door so that the smoke gets sucked into the airstream and it smells inside.nThe room is on street level, which gives it a strange feel and lots of noise is coming in from people in the alley.nOverall, the place could have been cleaner as well, everything felt either dusty or sticky.nThe surrounding area is not the nicest either, not something that Haka House can control, but worth a mention.
A solid back packers. Stayed in a room with an ensuite while in Auckland for an event nearby. Seemed to make a genuine effort to keep everything clean and tidy and friendly. Would stay again.
