Habitat HQ provides an economical, clean, friendly place to stay in Melbourne. At about one third of the price of a hotel and with the tram right out the front, there's lots of reasons to like the place. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the room was, even on a Saturday night. The queen size bed was comfy and the ensuite plenty big enough for the two of us.

One of the best hostels so far! I stayed in habitat for 7 weeks. I slept in different rooms and the beds were always comfortable. All positive: - clean - big kitchen - good vibe - free wifi - near to public transport - close to the supermarket, city and beach. I definitely recommend this place!

Possibly the best hostel. It's overly luxurious, clean and affordable for backpackers. 10 min walk from St Kilda beach. Easily accessible by trams as well. Love this place!

The true facts you should know - The WiFi is only available 10 min after checking in till when you check out. I needed to log in at least 10 times to the WiFi per day because it often disconnects you and lots of errors happened. There is a data limit that you can use per day. 700 MB if I’m correct. It’s not unlimited data. You can pay and add more data. The download speed is okay, but upload is very slow for some reason ( based on a speed check test) - The room key didn’t work sometimes and I needed to go to reception to fix the card. - A hair dryer is available at reception only while you deposit your room key. Although when I asked one of the staff in advance, she said I didn’t need anything to borrow it. I guess you guys need to be a little more professional about this. - Their computers are not free to use. 3 dollars for 30 min or something. I forgot. - There was a time that the shower room on the 2nd floor was out of order. (I understand but it’s just a fact) - My room was stinky ( but there’s no choice so I accepted it) It’s true that I felt like I was living in a 3rd world country, but I accepted it because it was only 40 something AU dollars per night. This place is overall good in Melbourne. People want to know inconvenient facts rather than the comments like “it was awesome!”, which was mentioned many times so I decided to write this. No offense. However, they should work on the WiFi problem.

Clean and tidy enough, not cheap but still cheaper than most hostels around St Kilda.
