Beer prices a little more than some other local places but the staff are friendly, the courtyard is nice and the food is also quite delicious. Overall a nice place, easy to recommend. If they had a little bit better happy hour pricing then it would be a 5 star review.

The George used to be our go to pub. Haven't been there for a while and went back for a lunch meal. Had the salt and pepper calamari which was deep fried, disappointing & seemed to be from a frozen packet. Considering the fresh seafood of the South Melbourne Market is across the road, this was dissapointing. Chips were 1/2 cooked with parts soft & fluffy and others hard. Food lacked freshness & seems to be mostly a burger / fry-up pub now.

Lovely old pub. Nice to sit outside in the sunshine with a beer after shopping across the street at the South Melbourne Market on a Sunday afternoon. Good pub meals too, their burgers are delish. Friendly and welcoming staff. Service is quick and efficient. We've been to The George a few times and it's been consistently good.

Probably the worst restaurant/pub/food place I have ever attended. Never ever recommend this place to anyone. I have been there on 04/01/2018 for new year team lunch, requested the guy who was taking orders that if he can provide some vegetarian food option, been told sorry we don’t provide those options! Then somehow ended up suggesting vegetarian pasta which I agreed to have, when it comes out, this so called vegetarian pasta was dump of over cooked pasta in tomato sauce (no vegetables no cheese nothing else at all) 3 people ordered same dish, all were terribly disappointed. This place called GEORGE HOTEL in south Melbourne basically made mockery of us. And hang on this is not end of it!!!!! Soon I requested some cheese to make it eatable (after all you spent $18 bucks), they provided some cheese (how great!!) once I poured that cheese on dump of the lump pasta, I have been told cheese has costed me extra $5 bucks!!! I asked for the manager and he was para-normally rude guy, probably equally worst as their pasta! He told me that you ask for vegetarian food this is what we serve! You asked for it. This guy has no manners of how to talk to a lady at all. No manners how a hotel manager should talk to paying guest at all, I have requested some chilly flakes and been told straight up that we do charge for chilly flakes as well. (Yes terrible absolute disgraceful, complete rip off, without any care of vising guest who are paying for that food) This place is a joke; I would never ever go there again! There are plenty of good places around and I have been to them all. This one is undisputed bad, none of us are going back there.

Went for lunch a week ago with a family group. Service was great but some of the meals were below average. Two of us ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken and were very disappointed. We received a large bowl full of croutons, bacon, cheese and chicken pieces and a poached egg in a salty dressing, with bits of chopped up lettuce scattered throughout. To the 'chef': Caesar salad is traditionally made with crispy green cos lettuce leaves topped with bacon/croutons/anchovies (and chicken if requested) dressed with Caesar dressing and sprinkled with cheese. (Egg optional) Not the pale remnants of the middle of a cos lettuce finely chopped and thrown into the bowl. It was very unpleasant and disappointing. Might be time to revisit that dish before serving it up again.
