Overall, a very easy and pleasant experience. - We did a one-way rental from Auckland City to Wellington Airport. - We preferred pickup at Auckland City, instead of the Auckland Airport, since we did not need a rental car while staying in Auckland. This enabled us to simply walk from our lodging to the rental car. - The pickup went very smoothly in Auckland City, with our car ready to go. - Our Compact car Kia Stonic was great, and was able to navigate throughout the North Island without any issues. It held two passengers and two large luggage bags in the trunk with the backseats folded down. - The return at Wellington Airport ended up going OK. There were not clear instructions about the drop-off. When I finally found the designated Europcar rental car spots, they were all full. There is no Europcar booth in the rental car park, but another company said to park anywhere and to notify the Europcar staff inside the airport. The Europcar booth was just inside the airport, and the staff reassured me the car was fine in any spot. I dropped off the keys and was done. - Invoice was as expected, with no surprises after returning. Would definitely recommend, especially as an alternative to the airport.
Took the whole morning to finally get a car. Was downgraded from what was booked, this was blamed on a glitch in the system. Manager not on hand to authorise any car at all. Returned an hour later and was finally given a car that was actually excellent. A very messy start but a good hire in the end
Let's be honest: I give seldom a negative review, because I know people work hard and most of the time they're giving their best. This is also a fact for the people working at Europcar Auckland City which gives them more as 1 star. But why only 2 stars? Because their opening hours don't match with the company information which brought me problems. For example: I've rented a car the 19th of March 2023 at Europcar Wellington and brought it back on the agreed day within presented opening hours which was the 24th of March 2023. No one was there; only a note with telephone number and where to put the key after opening hours. I left the key. Next day I had to be back because I rented another car for the week to come. Because of my experience on the 24th of March I called Europcar Auckland City in the morning, and a man told me I could only collect the car when I came before 12:00 AM otherwise they were closed which wasn't according the presented opening hours. I rushed in and got the car, but when I was back in the Netherlands I saw that the staff had booked in the Wellington-car when they found it on March the 25th, altough I told them I brought the car back the day before. Because of this Europcar Wellington charged me for NZD 135,27 € 79,04. Of course I protested for this and they asked me for any proof, which is hard to find because this was unexpected. So... if you've to work with Europcar Auckland City, and there's no one around when you bring in your rented car, make sure you've proof that you brought the car within the agreed hours. Keep tank notes, make pictures with date on it, make sure you've a Google timeline etc etc
I called to hire a car for my trip to NZ 2 weeks in advance. They did not have a car seat for my 5-year-old. She said you could bring your own from Australia or rent one from rental shops here in Auckland!!! Remind you it's compulsory to have a car seat in NZ for a 5-year-old.
I called Europcar’s phone line to make a booking for a seven seater vehicle to pick up the next day in Auckland CBD. I received an email confirmation but I also called again in the morning to make sure the car was there for me. When I arrived at the pick up point the staff rudely told me they did not have the car and I needed to pre-book. I thought that’s what I did. They had nothing to offer me and were not very helpful.
My wife and I were unable to pick up our car at our scheduled time the night before due to flight delays caused by Qantas another review for another time. We were told by Europcar that we could pick up our car the next morning from 8AM. We had a 2 hr drive ahead of us due to a pre-booked tour and needed to pick up our car on the dot to ensure we got to our tour on time. We waited outside from 7:45AM. The employee managing the branch did not show up until 8:15AM, did not have their tablet charged, making us wait until it had enough power to sign our contract. We will need to reschedule our tour which may not be possible. On top of this, the price charged was a lot more expensive than we initially were quoted and included a deposit which we had already paid.
Despite the power being out during our visit, Debra treated us very kindly and we were able to select our car without any hassle, huge relief!
Is it possible to give 0 stars? We’ve been waiting for over an hour in line. There is one teller here who doesn’t appear to be too rushed or concerned. There’s a line of about 10 groups waiting for service, most people have been here 45+ minutes. I would not recommend utilizing this business.
I return car on 1/27 2:30pm and drop the key to the employee, but till 1/29 didn't get any email notification on the return confirmation...
It was terrible experience ever. When we arrived at Auckland Airport and asked for the car we had booked, the europcar desk staff unkindly told us that there was no available car at the moment except electric vehicle and told us to upgrade the car for an additional fee of $40 per day. We declined the upgrade and asked for a similar car at no extra charge and she was seemed to accept our requirement. So, I signed for the deposit fee and received the changed vehicle. However, the contract that came back to me next day presented we were using an upgraded car with an additional $40 per day. She gave us a hard sell without any prior explanation. When I returned the car later, I complained about this, but the desk staff just said there was no way to refund the upgrade fee because I signed an upgrade agreement on the contract she explained me that signature was for the deposit, but the truth was that signature was both for the "upgrade" and deposit. It was very unpleasant and the worst. I will never use the europcar again.
