We stayed in different thermal lodges in Taupo before, this has to be the worst one. We booked this place because of the high google rating....the manager welcomed us with her grumpy face with no smile. We couldn't fill our private hot pool but all she could offer was for us to wait or we can stay somewhere else - how can we book another place last minute? The hot water only eventually came through at 930pm. We later learned that our unit is further away from the thermal spring source so need to wait until other units to stop filling their pools before we could fill ours. The water from the source is only 47 degree celcious, which is alot lower than the other thermal lodges we stayed at. Thats why the water in our pool was only lukewarm. The water is also really high in iron, which has stained my white swimsuit to orange - see photo. What disappointed us the most is the manager's attitude, she sounded like shes the owner and they are fully booked so they dont care if they get our business. When we check out we found shes not actually the owner. We will NOT come back to this place, please consider yourself be warned.nnReply to your reply below:nWe said the room was lovely not the manager was lovely. The water was only hot after 930pm and in the early morning when no one else was filling up the tub. My swimsuit was never been stained by any thermal pools, otherwise why would i be using it? Please stop making excuses and start improving your facility and customer service to deserve the high google rating. We have not received the 20% room rate refund yet.
The rooms were lovely and clean, the owners very accommodating and friendly. We decided to stay another night as we loved it so much. The outdoor thermal bath in the rooms are amazing and look out onto trees. Our kids loved the outdoor pool. We would stay again.
Beautiful hotel with lovely staff/owners. They went above and beyond for us when hubby snuck in a special request for our night away. Easy check in in and out. Lovely room, very comfortable bed and own private hot pool to soak in. Definitely will be back again. Thank you!
Our hot tub was in a really bad condition, wasn’t operational. Overall experience was a 6/10. The outdoor balcony can be done up better at the lower floors to actually get a good view of the lake.
This motel exceeded my expectations. As someone with a hospitality background, the quality was really noticeable in the details for me; complimentary soap / conditioner / moisturizer in the bathroom, complimentary tea & choc chip cookies in the room, súper comfy bed & pillows, bathrobes available, and the heated pool was a gem at 9pm, floating under the stars. And all of this literally next to Lake Taupo, walking distance to the city centre. Thank you for the hospitality, I’ll definitely will be back! - Fil, April 2026 from the Netherlands
