We've been told our location, opposite the main beach at gorgeous Lake Taupo, is the best with an amazing view.

We stayed at Gables Lakefront Motel from 20–21 June, and we had a really wonderful experience.nnThe location is beautiful, right by the lake, and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and very well looked after. What made our stay particularly memorable was the warm and friendly hospitality from the owner. He was incredibly welcoming and made us feel genuinely looked after during our stay.nnWe even took a photo together with him before leaving — a lovely memory from our trip! nnThank you for the hospitality. We would happily stay here again and definitely recommend Gables Lakefront Motel to anyone visiting the area.nnVisited: 20–21 June 2026
Gables Lakefront Motel was a comfortable place to stay, with a few positives but also some drawbacks.nnThe beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the room stayed warm throughout our visit, which was appreciated during winter. The on-site washing machine and dryer were incredibly handy while travelling, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.nnUnfortunately, the property itself feels quite run-down and could really benefit from a refresh. Our room didn't have a view, and while the location is good if you're driving, it's just a little too far from the town centre to make walking convenient. Overall, it lacked the atmosphere we were hoping for and felt a little depressing. There are a number of newer, more inviting places to stay in Taupō, so while our stay was comfortable, I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.
first time staying in a motel and honestly blew my expectations out of the lake ; WATER. absolutely stunning views from our room and even though we are visiting during winter, the motel staff or potentially owners? were so kind and suggested so many fun things to do. the private spa was amazing, we used that every single night. super clean rooms and such a lovely experience and would 100% stay again. thanks Frank!
Stayed in a superior room.nGreat location with an amazing view. Friendly staff. Excellent cleanliness throughout.nWould have given 5 stars but the private hot pool the main reason I booked this room didn't work in the morning and the shower kept going cold on and off both days
Location is great, HOWEVER, the room we stayed in was falsely advertised. We could barely walk around without bumping into each other. The communal washing machines were running all night making it impossible to sleep. There was random people wandering around outside the rooms throughout the night very loudly and to top it off the back door was wide open when we got back from our night out. Very unsafe and would not recommend. Owners were sympathetic yet still refuse to give us a refund as we checked out days earlier than expected due to these issues. If you have kids , don’t book this place!!
