I love this school. It is a long story to explain what I love about this school and what I have been through to get where I am now but I truly recommend this school.

I am a current student at this school and it is lovely. I have been at the school for 2 years and have enjoyed my time immensely, I look forward to the rest of my school career here, making new friends and achieving my schooling goals! Five stars!

I am writing this review for the sole purpose of informing other parents of what this school is like and why you should definitely NOT send your child/ren here. My daughter attended this school for years 8-11 (left halfway through year 11 to attend a different school). First of all, the administration or one lady in particular was absolutely horrible to my daughter and other students. She treated them like they were criminals if they were late to school and had to sign in at the office. I'm a single mother who works full time so my daughter had to catch 2 buses to get to and from school, occasionally these buses were late or didn't show at all through no fault of my daughters however she would often be scolded by the office lady and questioned as though she had done something wrong. If you're working at a school and you cant treat the students with kindness and respect then I don't understand why you would work there at all. Especially after changing my daughter to a different school and seeing how the office ladies treated the students there with politeness and professionalism, I was astounded at the contrast. Because it is such a small school the resources available are often limited, the extra-curricular activities were virtually non-existent and in the senior years when students select their OP subjects that will be the basis of their OP score upon graduation, many classes that would be available at most other schools are not here due to the small class numbers or lack of teachers, leaving your child with a limited selection of subjects. I believe there was even some talk about the school being shut down at some point (due to the small number of enrolled students) in all honestly I think that would have been the best decision for the QLD education department to make. I could go on about the reasons why you should avoid this school like the plague but I will leave with what I've already discussed. It should be noted that when my daughter was about to enter high school and I told a lady who worked at a local store that I was sending my daughter to Balmoral she warned me not to. If only I listened.

I could not recommend this school more keenly. My daughter become exposed to this school in the later years of primary school due to its involvement with the instrumental music program from Cannon Hill State School. We attended awards night when she was in grade 6 and from observing the school culture then we all knew this school was worthy of consideration. Never once in all those years as an actively engaged parent and member of the P and C have I ever seen any polite child with respect for authority treated unfairly. In actual fact quite the opposite. They are treated with the utmost respect. The teaching programs are first rate and the teachers genuinely care about student outcomes. Plentiful opportunities are offered to those students who wish to participate and excel. Most importantly the school programs are preparing our teenagers for university and the workforce where participants must comply with expectations. Inappropriate actions will have consequences just like in the real world. In my opinion you would not leave this lesson to teach your child at 17 when they finish school. The earlier you start the more natural it will seem and it should seem natural it is the decent way to carry yourself. Please do not be put of enrolling your youngsters in this great school by one off putting review by someone with an axe to grind. Likewise do not take my word for it either. Go to an event at the school or talk to parents of students at the school. Make it known you are considering enrolling your child at Balmoral and learn what is on offer that would interest your child. If you are looking for a smaller, more personal school where everyone knows and respects eachother look more into Balmoral State High School. I would encourage any other parents of children at Balmoral State High to promote this school and acknowlege its strengths. Too often only those with complaints make noise potentially damaging the reputation of others and implying that their children are attending a substandard educational facility or that they would be neglectful to send their children to this fine institution.
