This was my first experience staying at a YHA hostel and I absolutely loved it. The staff are very courteous, respectful, and super helpful. I could do an early check-in and use the common areas until the standard 2 PM time. The kitchen was clean, cutlery neatly organized, all guest's food labeled and kept on the shelf. I stayed in a 4 bed, all girls room. The room had an attached toilet and a separate shower area. Surprised that there wasn't any door for it, just a curtain! Fun place to meet other fellow travelers. Highly recommended place!
Great hostel. Very big & very centrally located. The staff was good, kitchen was huge & the community space is lively. The room was cozy with clean beds. Wish there were more toilets though. If you are coming from or going towards the airport, the airport express bus stops right near the hostel. It is a great option to stay in Auckland.
Very clean rooms and bathrooms. Very large kitchen with plenty of cooking and food storage space, which was nice. Location is fine - bit of a trudge into town and uphill on the way back. However, our 6 bed dorm was very cramped - there wasn't enough space for 2 people to pass in the room so if you weren't lying down on your bed you were in the way. Windows only opened a tiny bit and the two desk fans didn't help. All this meant it was stifling hot, particularly on the top bunk, so it was quite difficult to sleep. There was only one gents toilet and shower on our floor, and most other floors from what I could see. The shower cubicle had nowhere to hang anything and was also pretty cramped - every time I turned around in the shower I ended up knocking the tap which turned it off or made it really hot! It's not a particularly social hostel. The crowd that was staying here included lots of older people and some families with kids. Nothing wrong with that of course but maybe stay elsewhere if you're after a more social stay.
The room is so warm! We were sweating like crazy for three nights. If you open the windows, you'll be kept awake by drunkards, roadwork, ambulances and random stuff. There's one bathroom and one toilet together in a single small area. I had two guys come in to poop half a meter from me, while I was shaving. It was really awkward and uncomfortable. The place is clean enough but the stay was very... Meh.
Clean, but the single room with own shower is just extremely noisy with an air conditioner which cannot be turned off. At this price, couples should really consider to spend a few more dollars and stay in a quiet hotel. Staff also seems to be on auto-pilot, meaning they don’t adjust their chattiness to overtired guests.
This YHA is in a good location for exploring the city. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The facilities were clean and well maintained. A good sized kitchen is provided but there is limited dining space. The bedrooms are quite crampt and there are not enough toilets or showers compared to the number of beds.
The best backpackers hostel I've ever been! The rooms and facilities are always clean and tidy. The kitchen is open 24/7 and fully equipped with heaps of cooking stuff. The plus is definitely the high speed Wifi which is super fast for a hostel Wifi. Unfortunately you cannot stay more than 10 consecutive days!
Very nice place. It is quiet and very clean. We stied in a private room with en-suite bathroom. The room was as expected on the small side but with a nice view of the city. The bathroom was quite large. The common dining area and kitchen has everything you would need to cook and store food. I would recommend this place over budget hotel.
Rooms are awesome here, no complaints there. Showers are super tiny with only one hook / nowhere to hang things. The shower curtains are close so it sticks to your legs a lot and are also too small so water leaks everywhere if you're not careful like someone who flooded the room before me. Laundry is almost non existent here too, the dryers were constantly used up drying sheets while I was here so there was no way to dry my laundry in the hostel. Luckily there is a laundromat right around the corner. Would go to other better hostels if in Auckland again, either the other YHA or the other more unique hostels around Auckland.
Excellent hostel in central Auckland. Found just off the top of Queens St the lication offers easy access to the heart of Auckland's CBD. The hostel has lots of tidy, well set up rooms with comfy beds and clean shared toilet/shower facilites. The extensive kitchen and dining area is found on the bottom floor, with a lounge and outdoor balcony on the third floor. The balcony is a definite bonus with good views of the inner city and even the Sky Tower in the distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The prices were very cheap $29 for a bed in a mixed dormitory. I enjoyed my stay there very much and would definitely used them again. Highly recommended.
