The best hostel I've stayed so far in. Lovely staff, nice rooms and comfy beds. The top bunks of the bunk beds are really high so you have even some privacy. Almost all of the beds have a shelf attached to them so keeping your essential things close is super handy. It really felt like a home there the 4 nights I stayed there!
Splendid! Very nice atmosphere, a home away from home. Exceptional cleanliness, the rooms are big and beds comfy. Steffie the cat is the little princess of the house. Nice garden to escape the feeling to be in a city, and ponsonby of course is amazing. Best hostel I’ve been in New Zealand!
Really welcoming hostel. Its like a family. It's small but I don't think it is overcrowded. Lots of space to chill. The owners are really friendly and want to help you out as much as they can. The cat is friendly but she can bite you when you try to lift her up or something. The only disappointment was that my mattress was very soft and thin, so I was laying on the wooden bedframe. I told the owner about it and he wanted to help rightaway, but because it was one more night I told him it was okay.
Perfect hostel if you want it quiet and relaxed. The facilities are clean and tidy. The location is not right in the center but still convenient. The staff is friendly and helpful and the people are very laid-back. Staying longer than 10 am costs extra though and the showers were a little bit inconvenient.
This place is great! In a good area, well supplied kitchen, kept very clean, friendly staff! It's also well set up for socializing with other travelers. The dorms have very tall bunks, which is great for those on the bottom bunk, less great for those on the top, haha. Great place though, I definitely recommend it! :
Friendly staff, comfy beds and a lovely garden. The sociable atmosphere made it for me, a place I could wander into the living room and have a conversation if I wanted to. The front door is very loud in the front 8 bed dorm if people forget the request to shut it quietly.
Great hostel! Stayed in a 4 bed dorm for $31 a night. Unlimited fast wifi. Clean facilities with a nice kitchen and shared indoor/outdoor lounge. Good location right off of Ponsonby with lots of nearby cafes, restaurants and bars.
This was a welcoming accommodation with a friendly cat who loves Vegemite toast. A bit snug inside the kitchen but the beds were sturdy and comfortable with shelves to place things. Awesome outside exterior, great lounging areas. Parking would be difficult on weekdays but on weekends there's free street parking. There was an unruly occupant during my two nights stay, and the manager Hannes took care of it neatly and in a very respectful manner. He was around a bit and was very friendly to everyone. I would definitely come back to the Brown Kiwi Backpackers.
I stayed in this hostel a few times every time I came back to Auckland. It feels like being back home. People are super friendly i've met my 2 travel mates for 3 months there. You have a nice garden to hang out during the day / evening and a nice kitchen with always someone to cook delicious food. Great thanks to Hannes and Stephie for making this place special. Perfect place for stay in Auckland. Ponsonby is very nice, not far at all from the center, and you have a bus stop close to the hostel. The hostel is clean, not very big, it's like a house, where you meet a lot of people easily, with a nice garden. It's a little bit expensive, but it worth it !
