Based off other reviews we thought we were walking into a crack den. And that there would be dirt and feces all over the walls and floors What we got? Was no different to any other hostel we have been to in NZ. We stayed in a twin share and the room was massive -no amenities but non were advertised so no real issue there. the sheets were clean enough - no more dirty than your average hostel. The room itself again was clean enough -again no worse than you'd expect from somewhere that was costing $60/night The shared bathroom was a bit dated and in need of some repairs -I have seen far worse. Hot water was fine. Overall everything was just fine -and for the price you are paying I'm very happy
Only good thing about this place is the location. Bathroom had black mould on the floor, toilet kept leaking making loud noises. The shower didn't regulate the temperature. Went from ice cold to scorching hot. The bathroom door was so warped from water damage that it was covered in black mould. Mould on the ceiling in the room, mattress broken with springs poking through. The room was incredibly hot, had to leave the window open but was horrible with all the noise outside. Badly patched holes in the room. Stains everywhere, walls, tabletop, seat etc the staff were helpful but not the nicest. Not worth the money I paid. Also the lift spelt extremely bad of poo to the point where we were gagging. Overall Was just disgusting. The whole place is in need of a massive deep clean!! Rooms: Room full of black mould. Walkability: Good location. Could walk anywhere to get drinks or food.
This place is definition of you get what you pay for. Normal hotels have a team of paid cleaning staff. This place has just one guy I think. And I got the impression there are only three staff who aren't even paid but work for free lodging at the hotel, hence why rooms are cheap. The rooms are large and spacious. Beds comfortable enough. Some people have complained about sheets being stained, but I found the bedding to be clean enough. I think it's just cos the sheets are all white and it's next to impossible to keep anything spotlessly white forever. The kitchen was revolting. I never cooked or ate anything in there since just walking in there made me lose my appetite. It really was filthy. Kitchen is on roof, and if door left open will get pigeons wandering in. The bathrooms and showers are unisex, so if youre female this may be more of an issue for you. its stupid of them not to designate separate male and female bathrooms. The toilet cubicles are tiny which is something i hate. The water temperature of showers keeps fluctuating from slightly too hot to too cold whenever someone else in the building used the hot water, so it was annoying taking a shower. Also did notice funny smell, possibly mold, permeating third floor. for what you pay its reasonable value for money. wont be impressed but can't be angry either. This place is shabby but not as filthy as the 1 star reviews make out. its like something youd find in a poorer less developed country, so if youre used to 1st world NZ standards will be dissappinted.
Overall the location was great reception was good but however the rooms did not look the same in the photos. mold, holes, scratches, paint peeling stains on the bed the roof looked like it was going to fall down on us. most uncomfortable bed ever broken springs was not very happy about thatRooms: 1/5
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed in my life. From the moment I got there to the moment I left The rooms at night were 27 degrees at night time to the point of feeling like I had heat stroke as there was no ventilation or windows what so ever, there was mould in the shower and a hole in the roof above it which was a serious safety hazard. There was a piece of rotten fruit and rubbish under the bed. There was a drip stain of blood, marks and dirt all over every single wall and the floors and roof in the room. The bed was riddled with stains. There was a lot of false advertising on line, there was a tv in the room but it didn’t work, there was no hair dryers as advertised. We asked to move us room where the tv did work and there was a hair dryer but they said every room the tv didn’t work and no hair dryers. While stay there 5 people got stuck in the elevator and fire services had to come and get them out. The only good this is the location. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST
ABSOLUTELY FERAL. The photos they have advertising look nothing like it does in person. Holes, mould, dirty walls, stains on bedding and the actual beds. No air con or fans in the rooms and the rooms heat so easily I had to drench a towel under freezing cold water and lay it ontop of me just so I could avoid getting heatstroke at night since most the rooms have no windows. The location is ideal but if you care about your health I’d definitely avoid.
Good location but this hotel had a bad smell, the sheets were stained, pillows smelled. Also bathroom sink was so small, that it is not enough. I don't recommend if you are a clean person.Rooms: 1/5
This should be next on the list of buildings to be condemned. Absolutely disgusting rooms. Black mould everywhere.... Holes in the walls.... Stains on the bed and furniture..... Damp and unclean smell throughout the building.... expired building warrent of fitness.... The list goes on.... It would have been healthier sleeping under a bridge or on a park bench somewhere. Rooms: A health hazard all round.... Safety: Not safe. Even as a male..... Nope to staying here Food & drinks: If this place has food or drink facilities...... I wouldn't risk it.... You would probably get safer food dumpster diving Noteworthy details: Needs to be demolished....
BEWARE. Extremely filthy. Complained about the bathroom which weren't cleaned rhe entire time we were there and very run down. Reeked of urine so badly. Mould and black dirt build up in showers. Cracked and leaking toilets. Sticky floors. The same soap, foiled paper and old towels where in the communal showers from when we arrived til when we left. Our room window didn't shut so noise from the street was very loud. Curtains broken, mouldy and thin so a lot of light came in. We were moved after the first night and the second room was the same. The third room had closing windows but had dirty/stained sheets. Has a longe with a pool table which was great and a fantastic location. I also found the bed comfortable but gross sheets. The kitchen was in an ok state. From the roof, you can see a little bit of the harbour in the distance which was nice. For a very run down place and disgusting bathrooms, not worth the $$ Staff weren't bothered about the bathrooms and couldn't tell me how regularly they were cleaned. They clearly never have a well over due deep clean and certainly are not done daily as the same rubbish and smell was there the entire time we were there. Showering made me feel dirtier than when I went in. It really was revolting.
