Great place to stay! Stayed there a few weeks back and had a great time! All levels of Staff approachable , friendly and had a good knowledge of attractions in the area. After speaking to the Manager Josh, when we first arrived he was able to help gives us ideas on where to go and what to do throughout our stay after telling us about his own experiences! Room was a decent size, clean sheets and comfortable bed! Enjoyed Getting a bite to eat as food was a good standard Overall the hostel had a good social atmosphere and would happily stay here again!
This place was amazing! The staff were really helpful especially Mark who literally sorted my life out and made me feel like I was the only person in the world that mattered, as he helped me plan my DREAM trip. Speaking of dreamy.... Anyway the kitchen was huge and clean, the Rooftop was a nice touch and my room was very spacious. Would definitely recommend!
Good location. Nice big lobby area and kitchen has plenty of space for lots of people to cook. Showers and toilets were always clean and warm water. Nice air conditioned rooms. Shame about the breakfast the hostel offers. Could be much improved - getting rid of all the one use plastic cutlery and paper plates to start! Where’s your environmental conscience?
Everyone at the hostel was so friendly - the customer service was friendly. Especially Tom that took a long time to help my sister and me understand the kiwi experience and going out of his way to make sure we made our plane ride back home. Hostel was in a great location - the airport bus lead ride outside. Security is great as well. Only issues was the rooms were a little tiny and wish there was outlets by the beds.
The hostel is sociable, clean and spacious. The room was brilliant. Tom B was super helpful on checking in and full of energy. He also helped me book trips in both NZ and Australia, I can't wait to do them! He is extremely handsome and funny, I'd even go as far as to say he's my hero!
Location is great as it's right in the middle of the city! Price is excellent, much cheaper if you book online than in-person. The staff are friendly and accommodating. This is the second backpackers I've ever stayed at, and I've always felt comfortable and welcomed, especially by some of the long term residents. My belongings have never been stolen, the building feels safe and secure and the rooms are reasonably tidy, however this may be different for mixed rooms as I opt for the female only dorms. Showers and toilets aren't perfect but you'll eventually find one that works. The Wi Fi is reliable and has a strong signal on the 7th floor. Mattresses are quite hard but I prefer them that way, I saw other reviews saying the beds sag?? I've stayed in both 713 & 714 and never had a saggy bed LOL. I'm not sure why this place has bad reviews because the value you get from a $13 room is totally worth it considering you get a free breakfast albeit you only get two pieces of toast with spreads, cereal and the occasional fruit salad, but it's FREE.
2nd visit: December 2017 3* / 5*: This time I got a 4 bed dorm backpackers on Level 6. First 2 nights went well but on 3rd night, there were 2 other guests that had my roommate's key card and came in and play around. It happened after midnight just as I was close to going to bed but they came in. It was very disturbing! ... But the receptionists, especially Cameron and other ladies were very friendly and helped me by giving me another room on Level 7 with better people. I managed to sleep well on the 3rd night thanks to the staffs!! The showers were better this time it had hanging space, etc. Kitchen was good it provided enough items for us to use for cooking!! Very close to public transport access and Sky City!! I'd not recommend Level 6 rooms - unless if you don't mind noises and outside people being able to access this floor and maybe your room too. btw Level 6 is not locked off on the lifts 1st visit: January 2016 3* / 5*: It was a fair place to be honest. I've got a private room on Level 5 and it's quite peaceful. However there is a glass but no windows to open/close and the room was quite cold despite being in the summer. The showers looked a bit disgusting hot water was running well but no place to hang my clothes and there was no curtains therefore my new clothes nearly got all wet. Kitchen was good - pretty secure and has many utilities to use.
Great staff and service but the rooms were poor and not as in the advertised photos. There's a loud nightclub on the same block and the lack of sound insulation means you shouldn't expect to get a lot of sleep. Location is good though, short walk to the tower and Queen street.
Staff were fairly clueless when we arrived. Had to explain 3 times that we wanted to check in, not check out. Storing our luggage while we waited for the room was also a stressful experience. The luggage room was unmarked, and we were simply given the key with no explanation of what to do. Once inside, the room was a disaster. Food spilled everywhere, personal items like a toothbrush and razor loose on the ground or shelves. When we returned a few hours later, all four of our bags had been moved from their tidy spot in the corner - which was worrying! After checking in, getting to the room was difficult. One of the three lifts did not work to scan the card required to get out at the correct level. There was no option to use stairs to get to the correct floor either. The room was tidy, but not spotless. There were some spot stains on the sheets and shower curtain. Air conditioning was pumped into the room, but not able to be adjusted, and wasn't always a comfortable temperature. The TV was small, but adequate, though only 4 of the 12 channels seemed to work. All in all not a great place to stay, and we certainly won't return.
Disappointing We came to the hostel already with low expectations, but even those were not reached. We knew the bathrooms are supposed to be dirty - which they were - but for example the receptionist seemed to be disturbed in watching his youtube video when we checked in and didn't tell us anything about our stay, except for our room number. So after we checked in we had to find out ourselves that nothing which they advertise on their website was open, neither the big kitchen, the communial area, the game room or the bar we haven't found any notice about that during the whole online booking process but a big sign at the reception saying that after the check in there's no refund.. Apparently they are upgrading those areas for a while now. This means you only have four slowly working stoves and two microwaves for the whole hostel. Plus disposable cutlery. The key room cards are most of the time not working, but if you download the key card app you can easily open your room with your phone, but the elevator are still a big struggle. The other positiv things were that you have big lockers and a hair straightener in your room, the top location and it's cheap price.
