You get what you pay for! If you’re booking a 2 star rated hotel/hostel then expect things to be ‘average’. Having said all that we were very content and impressed with the overall experience. The receptionist who checked us in was very gracious and welcoming, interacting with us getting to know us a little bit and giving us local recommendations for things to do and places to see, he also went the extra step to see if we preferred the ground floor or first floor as we had a lot of luggage and there are no elevators in the building. We booked a 6 night stay in a double ensuite room, we got a 30% discount and paid only $369, don’t forget to find good deals/promos online. The room is absolutely nothing to complain about, it was clean, tidy, spacious, had all the amenities we required, the coffee and milk is actually decent for a hostel. The shower was clean, bed was made nice and no disturbances during our entire stay, very peaceful. No wifi trouble what so ever. One thing that was a little underwhelming is the laundry service, long story short we had no real choice but to use the laundry services at the facility, we were given a small discount from the receptionist which we didn’t ask for, that was very kind, however, we were told that the service included a wash and a dry and then the clothes would be returned to us folded, we got our laundry back all scrunched up in our bag, you could hardly call that folding, all our clothes were creased and messy, while we understand that this service isn’t often used, you should probably re-consider offering it at all if you’re unable to meet the expectations you’ve set for this service, it was a wee disappointing, if we had to pay full price we would have made an in person complaint. The front reception staff overall are very accommodating when we asked for a change of towels and refill on refreshments they rushed to help us and gave us everything we needed. The hostel is just a short walk into the heart of the CBD surrounded by endless restaurants and dinning options, big marks given for that. For a couple on a tight budget seeking shelter and a place to shower and rest our eyes this hostel is a place we have absolutely nothing to complain about in the grand scheme of things, highly recommended for the budget traveler. Also being a green hostel is something very attractive to people who care about the environment.
If you arrive after a long flight, want to have a relaxing good night sleep and get rid of the possible jetlag, save your money and book a better stay elsewhere. We stayed here 3 nights. The staff was okay, they did what they’re payed to do but service included nothing extra. Don’t expect to have a nice small talk or get smiles, ain’t included in the price. No airco made the room very uncomfortable. Toilet/bathroom were a bit questionable, wasn’t feeling very clean nor hygienic. Several things in the room were hanging loose, visibly broken or damaged. We had ants in the room, climbing in the bed and all over our things - make sure to keep your suitcases closed when possible. The bed itself was also very uncomfortable, if you have any problems with your back, it’s a definite no go. Location was very handy and places were easy to reach. If it was just one night and not after a long travel, it would’ve been okay, but it’s really not for people traveling long distances.
Do not stay here!!!! The room had a broken bed to start off with, the bathrooms were gross, white mould around the shower, beds were very itchy probably bed bugs but were to scared to look, old gum on the floor, the whole room felt dirty and unfinished, smell was horrible outside and in the building, no towels or anything in the room, staff did not offer to move us to a different room.
The staff were lovely, the place was great value for money, but the people in the room next to us came home noisily at 3am and spent the rest of the night till morning taking nitrous oxide. Management did ask them to be quiet but unfortunately they carried on once they'd left.Rooms: 4/5
Stayed here for 2 nights while in Auckland. We reserved a private 3 person room. The room layout was a large queen bed on the bottom bunk, and a single bed on the top bunk. We didn't have our own private bathroom, and had to walk down the hall. The bathrooms we're clean, and hot water was not an issue. The room had a bit of a smell, but that was probably because the window was left open while it was raining and the carpet got wet. They have a kitchen and comfortable sitting area with all the basics and more. They keep the whole place pretty clean and the location is fantastic.
I Stayed in the cheapest single room possible. The room was neat, tidy and very clean. - It was very small with only a single bed Which was actually really comfortable. Shared shower/toilets - were very clean all throughout my stay. Staff were amazing - very helpful and friendly. This place was all round perfect. I didnt check out the lounge / kitchen - but my guess is they would be excellent too. Thanks guys!
This hostel is very well priced and on a decently good location. The wifi is good as long as you are in the lobby, depending on where your room is wifi gets weaker and weaker. The rooms were too hot, no air conditioning was there and i guess over the winter they might be too cold. Staff were allright. The problem was the showers and the bathrooms. I felt dirty engaging in those areas.
Mixed feelings. The rooms and bathrooms definitely need renovation. The kitchen was very well-equipped but they closed it at 22 which surprised us a lot! We wanted to grab some of our food when we came late and really hungry only to see the door locked. The staff was nice though and the location could not be much better. One of the cheapest places in the area but still the price is slightly too high for the standard.
Do not stay here. The smell inside and out of this building is completely foul, I physically could not breath. The parking was also extremely tight and if anymore cars where down there we would not have been able to get in or out. The bed had bed bugs and the shower was filthy. Avoid this place.Rooms: 1/5
Clean and tidy, reasonably quiet for a backpackers. Location is good. Room was quite musty smelling, with no ventilation other than leaving the ground floor windows open. Bathrooms are clean and tidy, if a bit dated and small. Kitchen and common room are small.
