Staff was absolutely amazing, kind and understanding. I booked one of the private rooms and had a wonderful experience. Its about a 20 minute walk into town aswell so its in a great area! Such a lovely place and atmosphere

Very lovely people who own and run the bug backpackersnHad a really good stay very relaxing and close to all shops and the hospital.nA few People have left some bad reviews in the past and because of it the bug backpackers has suffered.nI can tell you from what me and my partner have experienced from our time at the bug is an excellent service nice beds and bedding clean facilities lovely people and they have a really good biscuit jarnnThanks Bug backpackers we really enjoyed our stay

It's a good hostel. But the staff member who attacked me is absolutely horrifying. DO NOT STAY HEREnnBooked my self and its absolutely a lot better than a lot of places I've stayed booked by orbit travel in Auckland. Some of them have been complete dives.nnOther rooms are possibly better value but not really value for money for the room with private bathroom. Said mountain view but that's hardly visible. Could have booked an ok hotel for 10 dollars more but was needing to find something quickly and I could have done with some social time.nnUnrolled my towel and there was a cockroach in it, but didn't see anymore anywhere. Asked for a cot and it wasn't provided. However I was earlier than I'd said I would be and was able to check in immediately, so that was good.nnFelt a weird mix of welcome and not welcome. A felt I was getting dirty looks from one of the staff, not sure why, as I know I didn't do anything to deserve it. Maybe it's RSD,.maybe it's reality. Maybe it's just because I'd been treated awfully at the last place I stayed and feeling a bit sensitive because of itnnBed is comfy. May stay again, not sure.nnWould be ideal for a solo traveler I imagine.nnNice colour scheme lots of things in common area to keep you entertained nice outdoor space. Clean kitchen.nnVaried mix of guests which is nice, but I personally felt a bit out of place at first.nnI probably would have absolutely loved it in my early 20s. Would be a 5/5 if it's the right time and place for you.nnThere was some body playing electric guitar and singing some awesome grunge in the other building while I was waiting for my food to be delivered which some might think is noisy but I really enjoyed it and and couldn't be heard from my room so I wouldn't say that's a problem. It's an old building so some noise should be expected doors opening and closing and noise from the road was the worst of it for me. Once I closed the windows in the room though most of the road noise was blocked out.

The management who run the place are incredibly helpful and kind. The kitchens and living rooms are all neat and tidy. I stayed in a shared bunk room of six, which was a bit cramped but ok. The other guests are a mix of travellers, permanent residents and others! We had a few visits from the police and a bit of yelling when one guest was set straight by the manager for being an idiot. All-on-all it's a homely hostel with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Bad experience... never again in this place.nEven though the staff was very kind, the shared space was clean kitchen and cleannOur very first night out of 4 was terrible. There was a permanent guest very noisy, throwing things to the walls, singing very loud almost screaming until really late in the night. We send a complaint but nothing happened. So, the next day we booked in another place and we leave the hostel.
