Nelson Hospital Emergency Room

Waited over 6 hours in the Emergency Department for an eye injury and still did not see a doctor.nWe understand the ED operates under a priority system, and that more critical cases come first. However, clearer communication would have helped.nIf our case was considered non-urgent, we should have been advised to go home or seek alternative care, rather than waiting for over six hours without seeing a doctor while worried about potential eye damage.

I'm a 72 yr old female living with heartfailure. Yesterday pm restriction & pressue feeling in my chest made the choice to ring 111. Very quickly 2 ambulance officers both named Chris were at my door. Taken into A&E Nelson Hospital. The care shown to me last night by Dr Tom Morton was extraordinary & nursing team including Mandy & Laura was wonderful. I had many tests first a chest Xray then a CT scan where dye was injected to look for blood clots! This scan was sent overseas to be read by a specialist possibly in England. It was 9pm here & early morning there so specialists available for quick results to be determined!nHow amazing was my care I am not out of the woods but no mass in my chest and no clots. Now it's trying out medication and I truly feel so blessed to be in such good hands.nI wanted to thank Dr Tom but also to advise others Nelson Hospital A&E patients are in safe professional, caring and kind hands.nCarolanne Martin

Went to ED in pain but I've been waiting for 5 hours and get nothing

Had a great experience at Nelson Emergency Department, when I was referred there after an eye injury. Got seen very quickly and was thoroughly examined, everything was explained, and treatment given has done the trick! Thanks to all there and especially Vince, who was brilliant.

Such a horrible health care system.nPatients are being given preference based on their colour.nHorrible comments by the security staff.nCame in with my friend white sprained angle and swell and security commented “oh you’re coming into ED for such small things “nAnd at the triage bay , the nurse didn’t even asked for the pain assessment and for someone to see him , had to wait for more than 3 hours.people who came in after us were checked before him.nVery bad experience .
