Beware of this company! They are scammers.nnI paid the $1000 bond which was placed “on hold” on my bank account. Upon returning the car and the workers checking that the condition of the vehicle was acceptable they “released the hold” on the bond and explained it would take up to 10 working days for the money to return to my bank account. They even provided a receipt of the transaction and it looked legit. It has now been 1.5 months and my bank account is still down $1000. If you look down further in these reviews you will see that someone else has had this exact same experience. Not good enough.

It was a good little automatic car for driving around NZ South Island from Discount Car Rentals, booked in advance through a 3rd party. It was affordable compared to other providers - but my expectations were appropriately set for what I paid for car had 130k mileage, and was all I needed for solo travel.nnThere were no problems with the car itself. Also the staff were helpful and pick-up from airport straightforward, car collection and return quick and seamless in my opinion. So all round a good experience.nnOnly thing is there is an initial NZ$1000 pre-authorised deposit/ bond take that takes a while to come back and is mentioned in a number if reviews. It was returned after 3 weeks, so as long as you can be patient waiting for that.

I returned the vehicle I had rented after only two days as I was unaware that this company only has older, high mileage cars. In fairness to them they happily took the vehicle back and refunded the difference without any issues.  I think they could raise their game with little or no cost by smartening up their office, transfer vehicle and giving the staff a uniform.

The car itself was perfect, but the team are amazing, first hand experience these guys are genuine, understanding and caring, they go above and beyond to make your holiday the best it can be

I recently rented a car from New Zealand Discount Car Rentals, and I was quite pleased with the experience.nTheir rates were notably cheaper than those of the major car rental companies located directly at the airport. The car, while having a high mileage for a rental vehicle, performed reliably and got me where I needed to go.nThe convenience of airport pick-up and drop-off was a significant benefit. However, it's worth mentioning that the holding deposit took up to a month to be released, primarily due to bank processing times.nAll in all, New Zealand Discount Car Rentals offers excellent value for money, and I would consider using their services again in the future.
