Top notch. Popped in for a bit of a late lunch—was originally thinking about grabbing a slice from Sal’s, but came here instead and wasn’t disappointed at all. Ended up finding some seriously delicious pizza anyway. Really great value for money and a much better choice overall.
Every time I walk into Newtown New World, it feels like the staff are waiting for me to do something wrong. I even show my bag willingly because trust goes both ways—but somehow that still gets treated like I’m auditioning for “Most Likely To Steal.” Let’s be honest: who’s stealing from you? There’s nothing in that store worth the suspicion.nnThe layout is a whole disaster. It looks like you’ve leased out every spare corner just to keep the rent paid. The only section with any real personality is the chemistry aisle, and that’s doing all the heavy lifting for the entire store.nnTonight I politely asked a staff member, “Do you have a Club Card?” and somehow I got hit with a snarky, unnecessary, bias‑soaked tone like I’d asked for a kidney. If you’re going to talk to customers, at least watch your tone. Basic respect isn’t optional.nnAnd your security? If they’re meant to be intimidating or observant, it’s not landing. At all.nnDo better. Seriously.
Review: Unjust and Dehumanizing Customer Service ExperiencennThis afternoon, I walked into the market expecting a normal visit—but instead, I was met with suspicion and silent judgment. From the moment I entered, the security guard’s eyes were locked on me like I was a threat. I felt criminalized for simply existing in the space. It was invasive, humiliating, and deeply unfair.nnYou shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, yet that’s exactly what happened. I wasn’t treated like a customer—I was treated like a problem. The presence of people struggling outside your doors isn’t my fault, and it doesn’t justify profiling those who walk in. If your staff can’t distinguish between dignity and bias, you need to do better.nnThis wasn’t just poor customer service—it was a failure of basic respect. I hope this review prompts serious reflection and change. Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome, not watched and reduced to assumptions.
The place is organized and clean and has most of what you are looking for in terms of food, meat, vegetables and fruits. Their baked goods are the best, even compared to other New World branches.
Cost of living seems a tad bit high in New Zealand, I spotted some $28 grainola here.nPacks of crisps seem overpriced, too.nI also forget that you can buy booze in grocery stores.
