Worst drive-through experience I’ve had at McDonald’s Petone.nnWe placed our order clearly through the speaker system around 12:05am - a Big Mac and large fries. The staff member taking the order kept repeating it back incorrectly multiple times, even though we were speaking clearly.nnWhen we reached the payment window, the same staff member was there and her behaviour honestly made the experience worse. No smile, no basic courtesy, just facial expressions and attitude that made it feel like we were bothering her simply by ordering food. What kind of customer experience is this supposed to be?nnAt the pickup window, we were handed a Big Mac and a large Sprite Zero Sugar instead of the large fries we actually ordered. When we pointed out the mistake, the staff member at the window told the girl who took the order, and both of them laughed about it right in front of us. The apology was casual and joking rather than genuine or professional, which made the situation feel even more disrespectful.nnWe had not even been given a receipt initially, so I asked for one because I suspected we had been charged incorrectly. Since cars were waiting behind us, we had no choice but to drive off and check it after parking nearby. The receipt showed we had been charged $5.80 for the Sprite Zero Sugar instead of the large fries we ordered, which cost $5.60.nnSome people may say it is “just 20 cents,” but that is not the point. Every cent has value. Businesses would not hand over food if customers paid 20 cents less, so customers also should not be expected to ignore incorrect charges simply because the amount is small. What was most disappointing was that the mistake was never properly acknowledged or corrected. The receipt was simply handed over to us without any attempt to fix the issue.nMistakes can happen in fast food, especially late at night. Customers understand that. But laughing at customers after making repeated mistakes, acting irritated while serving people, casually brushing off an incorrect charge, and showing no professionalism or accountability is completely unacceptable behaviour from customer-facing staff.nManagement seriously needs to address the attitude, professionalism, and customer service standards at this branch. This experience left us feeling angry, disrespected, and extremely disappointed.
It's Maccas, you know what you should be getting right? This one is in a great spot down in Petone...what a shame it's not a block closer to the esplanade! However, it's a very tidy restaurant, I mean very clean and clear, well laid out, great seating options, and in very good well maintained condition. It is bright, nice level of music, seems very convivial as I sit here with my breakfast...staff are clear with orders, visibly helpful and engaging, good eye contact and friendly. It is one of the best examples of from the big fast food outlets that I've seen in a long time.
This is one of my favourite McDonald’s locations in town. The restaurant is consistently well-maintained, and the cleaning lady pays exceptional attention to detail. Her dedication and genuine care for her work truly leave a lasting impression. The bacon and egg were perfectly prepared and did not disappoint. Unlike some outlet where the buns are burnt and the bacon is overcooked with black charred bits and greasy residue, everything here was cooked to perfection -soft bun, tasty bacon, and perfectly prepared overall. Well done to the team, and I hope the quality of the Bacon & Egg McMuffin stays just as good!

I had a very disappointing experience. I ordered a coffee and politely asked for it to be heated up because it had gone cold after sitting for too long. The bartender was about to help, but another lady came over with an unnecessary attitude and said I should have asked for it “extra hot” from the beginning.nnWhat mattered was that the coffee was cold, and instead of handling the situation professionally, I was made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The interaction came across as rude and prejudiced. In the end, I left without my coffee because I did not want to continue a negative conversation.nnVery poor customer service and a terrible experience overall.
