Jason Books

About

Jason Books deals in secondhand, out-of-print, and rare books. We have been in business in the centre of Auckland for over 40 years and have over 20,000 quality books covering most fields of interest.

Story

Jason Books deals in secondhand books. Our stock is wide-ranging and covers most areas of interest. Specialist collections include New Zealand, Maori, Pacific, nautical, art, and literature. We keep a good selection of contemporary paperbacks, including non-fiction titles, as well as literary, crime, fantasy, popular fiction, and classics. New books arrive daily.

The store is owned and operated by Maud Cahill, with assistance from Bruce Ross, Roger Parsons, and Francis McWhannell. It is housed in Chancery Chambers, a character building in the centre of Auckland city, within walking distance of the universities and art galleries.

You may browse or search much of our stock online at jasonbooks.co.nz. Not all the books in the shop are listed in our catalogues, but if you contact us directly we can tell you if we have a title in stock. We are happy to take note of your book wants and to help you find a desired title. We will also let you know if books in your area of interest come in to the shop.

Orders may be placed through AbeBooks.com when searching our catalogues. However, we can offer discounts on orders placed directly by email or telephone.

Thank god Auckland CBD has a secondhand bookstore and thank god it's a good one. The staff are great and the selection is strong too. It's not a huge store but makes up for it by not having too much chaff on the shelves. No trip to the city is complete without visiting here and Unity.
This is a rare find bookshop. I found one book that I wanted but I ended up walking out of the shop with 3 books. If you like a quality second hand book shop this is for you. They have reasonable seating area too, so you can sample before you buy.
My favourite second-hand bookstore in Auckland! Always been able to come across great finds when I visit. I've always noticed the sense of care and selection across their titles, which really saves me from feeling overwhelmed. Love visiting and combing through every shelf every time, highly recommend!
An amazing place. I had books that I didn't like and exchanged them with Quicksand from Toltz and Hegemony or Survival from Chomsky. The lady there is super nice and helpful.
Very unique, quality selection, not just any random book is stocked here. Friendly, helpful staff in an intimate environment. Highly recommended
Without a doubt one of the best second hand bookstores I have ever come across. A brilliant collection of books, fiction or non fiction. Extremely reasonable pricing, I have pulled many books from here for a terrific price! The staff are extremely polite, respectful and helpful, and are always willing to put aside what they are doing to make sure you have the best experience possible. 5 stars.
I am incredibly impressed with Jason Books. I ordered an old book online and it arrived well looked after, cared for and refurbished. It was wrapped up impeccably, even the handwriting on the courier parcel was gorgeous to look at. I love what I have experienced and will go out of my way to order more books from Jason Books in the future. Thank you
Brilliant second hand bookshop Highly recommended
Found a book been hunting for some time here the other day - so 5 stars. Thank goodness there are still second hand bookshops around. Only down side to this place is the stairs - not good stairs either. Big airy space, loads of books, and good prices.
They have a plethora of detailed books that range from slightly old to very old. It's a great place to take someone to hang out and explore similar interests. The staff are very helpful though a bit shy. They have some awesome historical first hand accounts on sale and a lite from the 1800s, which in NZ is impressive.
