Hard to find! Indeed it is hard to find books here, which means we have to spend a lot more time to browse all the shelves and on each level of the shelf scrutinised carefully every book. I will not recommend this place if there is a particular book that I'm looking for... but for those who just love books and are hoping to find some treasures amongst books or just try your luck to find interesting books... this will be a perfect place. Even if I'm not intend to buy any books my gals had that covered it is definitely a great place to just hang. The fact that it's really a great historical place antique and it use to be a convent, accommodation for nun, the peace and tranquility is out the world. I think I hear God's voice in this place.
I think this bookstore is one of the best sellers of books and is the foundation of great New Zealand Literature for those rare books that are modern or historical, you'll find them here, or maybe something will fall into your hands off the shelf that is a rare treasure. The preservation and enjoyment of these books is something future generations need.
The largest used book store we’ve seen in Auckland. Diverse range of science fiction books with fantasy intermingled. Several of the trade backs were pretty beaten up. Decent prices. Wish there were more hardbacks available. Wear a mask if you’re sensitive to dust.
I appreciate the idea of the store, but every interaction with the people working there has been frustrating. The first time I showed up with books to sell I was told that I'd have to make an appointment to sell books and that I couldn't just show up. So then I wrote, send a photo of the books and asking about making an appointment. I was given an estimate and told to make an appointment... Apparently appointments are only done by phone! So I called, was told the time slots and picked a 10.30am time slot. I arrived at 10.32am and was told the person that looks at the books is out and I would have to wait until the person is in. I waited 10 minutes, asked if there was some estimate for this buyer arriving, since the whole point of making an appointment was... well to have an appointment. The person working told me not really as they were dealing with some family issues, but also that she could just bring the books to the buyer person as they were just outside the store... At that point I just gave up and left with the books. Again, I appreciate the idea of the store but dealing with the store itself left me very confused and frustrated.
Spent a whole afternoon perusing the wonderful array of books here. Friendly staff, genuinely interested in conversation, and seats conveniently placed to allow reading at leisure. User friendly!
One of my favourite spots in the city. If you enjoy losing yourself for hours rummaging through all kinds of books and maybe finding a few bargains this is a perfect place for you too. This old house holds books on all subjects, from the new to the old to the weird. Children's books, literature, technical, sci-fi, occult, spirituality, comic books and a huge collection of national geographic magazines, topped off by a huge section of New Zealand specific bibliography. You can also find books in a variety of languages, if that's your thing. The staff are lovely and will surely help you on your quest for that book you are looking for. My only complaint is that time seems to disappear every time I go inside. This is what you'd want a library to be. Love it.
Loved it. I could've spent hours in this house stuffed to the roof with interesting books. Unfortunately I didn't have the time but I still found the two books I was looking for in 5 minutes.
Quirky book store with many different rooms covering lots of genres of older prints. If you've been looking for a book for a while you'll probably find a copy here.
This book store has been in Onehunga for as long as I can remember and is one of Auckland’s iconic second hand bookstores. Even the store layout is iconic with old wooden floors little hidden staircase’s and every kind of book you that you can imagine. It’s worth visiting here just for the experience.
I was amazed when I found this place! The rush of excitement when I stepped in was real! They have a wide range of books available; I ended up buying 14 books. Probably the biggest book haul for me ever. And the layout and atmosphere of the place is just beautiful. It's a bookworm's paradise.
