Hutt Hospital Emergency Department

Hutt Hospital has a very busy accident and emergency department. The doctor and nurse team here are highly professional and dedicated to patient care We are so lucky to have this medical capability in the Hutt Valley.

Staff are efficient and over worked. Very caring. Some of the processes need stream lining, sent by GP with letter all measurements redone after a very short period of time stressing an already anxious patient.

I walked in for a suspected broken finger at 10am on a Saturday and I was immediately seen by the receptionist. They arranged a lovely St John's helper to fill in the forms for me as I couldn't write. Then the on duty doc had a quick look and have me some pain killers. Then i was taken Into a room to see a doctor, then x-rays, then results and a splint. Next thing I knew I was home with a prescription. All and all it was about 2 hours which is much quicker then I expected. Thank you!

More likely to bleed out waiting to be seen or get sepsis from the waiting room. Miserable, filthy, usual understaffed etc but the staff they do have are pretty Miserable and unempathic - totally understand that they deal with some rude, impatient people, but no point treating everyone the same. Arrived with chest pain, waited for 40 mins then left. No explanation, no consideration, figured i had a pulse so was probably fine. Wouldn't recommend unless you're unconscious therefore unaware.

Waited 8 hours with back pain from an injury which I have the video evidence of how the injury occurred. I tried explaining to the doctor what has happened and I could tell she was not listening and the she diagnosed me with backache through ACC even though I’ve only gotten the pain AFTER the injury. Being a nurse myself , it’s disappointing to see health professionals not care. Now I have to travel back to Auckland who have better healthcare providers to diagnosis me properly because now I can’t work and won’t be getting paid due to their negligence.
