[UPDATED REVIEW: 3 STAR]nUpdating this review to 3 stars because of the GP Dr. D__ S______, who insisted to see my daughter and have her x'rayed after we have left the hospital not seen by a doctor nor have received any kind of test.nnSo we grabbed a drive thru in a nearby fast-food before going home because we're so hungry... while in the process of getting drive thru food, I got 2 calls from a private number the hospital, who asked if we're still at the hospital and that they were looking for my daughter. Not sure if it's a nurse or a receptionist, also not sure if it's the same person, as the line is not clear and was driving/ordering/paying... but these two calls ended up telling us we can no longer be attended to because we left the premises. I was really thinking of going back but lost hope because other kids who came later than us we're accommodated first. I'm guessing they are 'more urgent' than my daughter. And I have nothing against that rule. But surprisingly, a third call came in asking if we want to go back because the GP would like to see my daughter and wants to get her a chest xray. And was told to head straight to the receptionist who seems not to know about the call that made us come back. After asking around, we were led to where my daughter got her chest xray and were soon seen by Dr. D__ S______. He is compassionate and I can sense that he really cares. Hands down to him if he was the one who asked us to come back... I think if it's just the receptionist or the lady who called us that makes the decision, my daughter wouldn't have checked. So thankful to Dr. D.S!nn[PREVIOUS REVIEW: 1 STAR]nVery, very long wait times... just comparing it with Starship Hospital in Auckland. Very bad health care system here in Wellington. We can't get a GP for my daughter for months because of long waitlists so we decided to bring her to this hospital. Been waiting for 4 hours already. Didn't thought it will be this long and we were not prepared, didn’t have lunch with us only daughter's snacks. So hungry and just decided to go home. ED was so chaotic!
I came to you guys this week about 2:30am Thurs night/Fri morning as I have had severe asthma for a while which took a turn for the worst recently.nOn arrival to the emergency department I was:n- Severely breathlessn- Barely about to speak because i was struggling to breathen- In shockn- Triaged by a nurse who was not paying attention to me and was talking to her colleagues while ignoring my results it seemedn- Unable to eat, sleep or eat properly and that had been going on for a few days prior as well.n- SweatingnI MADE THE NURSE WHO TRIAGED ME FULLY AWARE OF THIS AND SHE EVEN TOLD A COLLEAGUE BEHIND HER THAT I WAS BREATHLESS.nnWhy was I left as absolute last priority??nI arrived at 2:30am and stayed waiting until 7:30am; still watching others arrive and left before me still from arriving at 5am??nnI ended up leaving the hospital at 7:30am Friday morning unseen and panicked, still struggling to breathe.nnI got hold of my GP 8:30am Friday morning in hysterics about what to do. Luckily my GP was kind enough to book me an urgent appointment with herself and a nurse that morning.nnI had to be administered 2 oxygen tanks at my GP office as upon quick examination they realised and confirmed my condition was indeed life threatening.nMy Dr was worried about my conditoin so bad that she insisted I took my situation even more seriously than i already had.nnHow many others???
I walked in for a suspected broken finger at 10am on a Saturday and I was immediately seen by the receptionist. They arranged a lovely St John's helper to fill in the forms for me as I couldn't write. Then the on duty doc had a quick look and have me some pain killers. Then i was taken Into a room to see a doctor, then x-rays, then results and a splint. Next thing I knew I was home with a prescription. All and all it was about 2 hours which is much quicker then I expected. Thank you!
Last night staff told me the truth, everyone in the ED waiting room usually leaves before seeing medical staff. Over 3 years, multiple instances, nearly 30 hours waiting, all urgent care. I never once saw medical staff, including last night. There is no ED medical care available at this hospital, unless its Priority 1.
I have nothing but thanks and praise for every person that helped me in the ED after a life threatening accident.nI was prioritized right to the top so sorry to others who were waiting, don't blame staff for any wait you had, they were amazing.
