Costas Taverna Greek Restaurant and Ouzo Bar

Lovely experience at this quaint Greek outfit at Christchurch. Was glad we booked this place the night before we left NZ. Ordered the recommended dishes manuka smoked pork chops and the chicken “rice” dish, a calamari as well as mussels and spanakopita as entrees. All the dishes did not disappoint.

Absolutely fabulous... First time and wow, food was amazing, love that there is an option for mini desserts will be back to try more dishes

Costas Taverna is a nice family restaurant in Papanui northern part of the city in very popular area with many restaurants around. Very nicely decorated and modern with good atmosphere and attentive service. If you’re after just a drink only you have an Ouzo bar on site with famous Greek drinks. Regarding food - entrees are delicious and good to share, especially flaming saganaki , spanakopita and dolmades. Mains were ok, but nothing special - falafel was quite dry. Still worth coming back. Overall definitely the best Greek / Mediterranean restaurant in the city !

I have been living overseas the last 9 years, so the last time I was at Costas pre quakes it was still down Victoria St. My friend chose the 'new" Costas for her Birthday treat and I'm so glad she did! Every single thing we ordered was delicious and cooked or made perfectly. Service from Lu was friendly and welcoming, and we had a lovely night. So glad that a Christchurch original is still going strong and just as good as before, if not better. Thank you and I hope to be back much sooner next time!

Best restaurant for the price in Christchurch in my opinion, friendly but also professional staff. Amazing food for a fair price, great atmosphere. Food is tasty, beautiful and comes in large portions. Perfect if you want a large meal to share with friends and family.

Ordered the main lamb dish. Lamb was cooked to perfection. The fresh greens where fresh. The rostered vegetable where a touch cool but not cold so still delightful. The waitresses where friendly and worked hard.

Absolutely loved the food!! This is now mine and my partners favourite Greek restaurant!! I took my partner here for his birthday dinner last night and we had the best time! The dinner sizes were awesome and all the sauce flavours were delicious!! I will definitely be back! The waiter was really friendly and was so helpful throughout the night : Vegetarian options: The vegetarian falafel souvlaki salad was amazing!!

We had a calamari and lamb in the clay pot dish and mousakka tonight.I was expecting calamari will be like normal calamari which many restaurants serve but was so tender and sauces coming together was just amazing like can keep licking! And main meal was absolutely fantastic lamb was tender ever and not over salted so could enjoy the flavour it's own. But what made us most special feeling tonight was top notch service of Alex!! She was so friendly and good vibe all time and also really helpful with the meal we struggle to understand words. We were so full with beautiful meal but she told us that there are mini dessert for the full tummy people so we got yummy mini baklava at the end.Thank you and we will be back.

The staff were so supportive and amazing. We had a group booking of 45-55 people and we were in and out of the restaurant night before and meeting with Chef and Restaurant owner to make sure we could help them out as much for that night to make it easier and smoother organized pre orders and what not. But just overall the night was beautiful the restaurant food and there were no issues with the meals including entrees and desserts. Was just amazing. Thank you is not enough but Thanks is what I can say. Kid-friendliness: As we had booked majority of the restaurant the children were able to have their own area but the kids menu was also really great they had colouring in and activities for them as well. Parking: Open mall type area so plenty of space and it is shared with other restaurants. Wheelchair accessibility: Our mums in a wheelchair and was plenty of space for her to get into and also Dietary restrictions: They had gluten friendly food which was great for some of our family and also keto friendly for another.
