Chelsea Sugar (NZ Sugar Company Ltd)

Took the sugar factory tour and loved it! The staff were really friendly and patient, explaining everything step by step. It was amazing to see how local sugar is actually made. The little train driver even showed up in a photo from 1985—he’s clearly been here forever! The factory itself is full of history, and there are walking trails, a cafe, and a playground nearby, so it’s perfect for families.

We absolutely loved our visit. Our tour guide was explaining everything so well. The interactive section was a favorite for my kids.

Ordered the Eggs benedict with salmon, eggs cooked perfectly and very quick service, even when it was busy.nOnly downside is the dessert pricing, $9.50 for a lamington is a bit steep and the blueberry cheesecake tasted a bit flavorless gluten free?nOverall good experience, especially the sea views.

Great place for family activities: factory tour, walk, playground and cafe. Food was a bit pricey though, $30 for that fish n chips with only 1 fillet, same price for the chowder… Their desserts on the other side made it up, reasonable price and huge portion, photo is the lamington. We would come back for a nice walk in summer but not the cafe

Totally worth the visit - stay for half the day and complete the very insightful tour, have morning tea or lunch after and let the kids play at the playground overlooking the gorgeous view of the city. My kids loved the interactive section within the visitors centre. Will definitely be back for a lamington as that sold out super quick today!
