"We serve a full brunch menu which runs 7am-2.00pm weekdays and weekends 8am-2.00pm as well as a fully stocked cabinet of freshly made lunch items and sweet treats.Black Betty opened for business in February 2011 and since then has grown to become an integral part of the Christchurch café scene.Located in a renovated warehouse space on Madras Street, we have a huge seating selection, but beware, we fill up quickly over lunch and on the weekends, so get in early! Don’t be fooled by the unassuming frontage of this funky cafe! Once you step inside you are greeted with energetic staff, a large inviting rustic space, delicious smells & a cabinet full of treats! Service was fast, efficient & attentive despite being fairly busy. Delicious coffee & garlic twist was had by me & I’d definitely go back to try something from the extensive menu & spend some more time in this fun space.
Fantastic coffee and excellent breakfast. Corn fritters were fabulous, super fresh, soft and fluffy on the inside but crunchy on the outside. Service was very prompt and polite. Got busy pretty fast but food came out surprisingly quickly! Gutted to have not got something from the cabinet though. Definitely one of the best breakfasts in Christchurch, better than many of the other offerings in the central city.
Amazing cafe that comes highly recommended. The atmosphere was great, very laid back and not too busy. Food was great, highly recommend the pancakes, but the eggs benny looks great also.
It's expensive at $30 but it's definitely one of the best vegetarian cooked breakfasts I've ever had and it kept me full all day. Beautiful ingredients and perfectly cooked. Worth it if you want to treat yourself!

Fantastic food. Generous sizes good prices. The muffins were nice and moist with a crunchy top cinnamon sugar. Cheese scones the same, multiple cheeses in them the flavour was divine. Coffee hot and smooth. So in other words we loved it!!!

The food was great and the portion is HUGE!!!!! Usually the service is good but they didn't seem too interested in us this time while we were there during a weekday at 1.30pm so that was a little disappointing.Food: 5/5
Probably one of the best breakfasts out I have had in a while. The place was absolutely pavked and I can see why. Even so the friendly staff member let us wait a little for a free table that was quickly ready which we were really grateful for. Bloody good food. The brisket was great, the pork belly was great, i loved the iced earl grey and my buddy enjoyed his cold drip coffee. 100% recommend
