During our visit to Long Bay over Easter, we had the pleasure of dining at Birds of a Feather, which is conveniently located nearby. Our experience was exceptional, highlighted by the following dishes:nnWe thoroughly enjoyed the crispy Peking duck, aromatic wind-sand lamb chops, delicious crispy sweet and sour pork, and the raw beef piece apologies for not recalling the specific name.nnThe restaurant's ambiance was superb, featuring a modern and inviting atmosphere that enhanced our dining experience.nnWe highly recommend the wind-sand lamb chops and the beef dish—we will definitely be returning to savor these favorites again!nnOverall, Birds of a Feather left a lasting impression with its wonderful food, ambiance, and service. We look forward to our next visit.
The decoration is quite fashionable, giving people a sense of comfort and warmth, and the lighting and soft furnishings are very attentive.nnService, very friendly to guests. When the staff saw me ordering black truffle shrimp, they reminded me that children might not like black truffles, and suggested that I order two-color shrimp balls. It turns out that my son likes to eat prawn balls.nnThe garlic bone is great and I rave about it. My son said he couldn’t finish it and packed it in the air fryer for a late night snack.nnThe conch in the juice. The juice was a little spicy, with a Sichuan taste and chewy texture.nnThe two-color shrimps are tender, large and delicious.nnI don’t know what kind of rice is used for the black truffle cod fried rice. The rice grains are distinct, soft and glutinous, and have a good taste.nnFried rice and fried vegetables are home-cooked dishes, which shows the basic skills of the chef. The chef’s thought can also be seen in the plate presentation.nnThe use of rice and the selection of ingredients show the owner's cost investment in details. The owner has put great care into the hard and soft furnishings, chefs and ingredients, which is rare in New Zealand. Because on the one hand, the store is not in the CBD, and on the other hand, New Zealand is not a place where you invest in everything, so the price can go up. Therefore, there are very few restaurants willing to invest in experience, and Chinese restaurants are even rarer.nnThis is also the rare Chinese restaurant I have encountered in New Zealand with relatively large seating space. Of course, these impressions may be somewhat subjective. I rarely go to Chinese restaurants in New Zealand.nnAnyway, I have one more option to come back again list.
Second time taking family and all of us enjoyed dining here. Great ambience, prompt and professional service, the dishes are very tasty! My favourite is pan fried cod
Peter’s previous restaurant The Hees Garden in Mt Eden was one of our go-to dim sum place, this new restaurant is simply a huge step up. We particularly liked the new modern cozy interior designs, the same good old dim sum flavors, and a lot of tasty new menu items. We need to bring the entire family there next time to sample all their menus :
Average service, they do try though. Definitely targeting the higher end market, most dishes $40 or above. Quality fare, but at those prices better to keep it for special events and celebrations. I prefer more quantity and value, so I won't be back. Can't fault the food, just the portions are small.nnAll up we ended up spending about 60pp.
