My first visit at WH on Kingsway and I am satisfied. My initial impression is their service like “wow everyone here is nice and accommodating.” Food is great especially their wontons. The price is reasonable too. Overall, I would love to revisit more often and try some other menu. Highly recommended
Mixed feelings about this. Visited Feb 2022 on a weekend. Normally I don't like talking about service being bad because it isn't important when it comes to these kinds of restaurants it's not exactly fine dining, but I think it has to be said that the service was especially cold and unfriendly. Staff looked like they were run off their feet and because it was so busy, they just didn't care anymore. The food was above average. Congee not too salty and they didn't just dump msg in there to make it taste good. Ditto the Noodles. Tripe was so tender. The was like re-heated cardboard def avoid. Ox tongue was tasty and they didn't skimp on the actual meat like some places. Overall would recommend for a tasty meal.
The food is ok. Although the lobster noodle didn't taste very nice, only got half a lobster and the meat was frozen so dry and flavourless. So wouldn't recommend that dish. The other dishes were ok. Drinks alright. Waitress did get the drink order wrong by one even though we verbally confirmed. Could have happened anywhere but was a little annoying having gone through the order a twice.
I have been exploring and trying rearaurants in Kingsway every weekend, and last Saturday I finally happened to taste the wonton from the Secret Kitchen's express company. Without a doubt, the wonton were beautifully delish. The skin was soft, the filling and the sauce was awesome. I also tried other dishes, which were lobster noodle and the seafood hor fun. I would say they tasted not bad at all, although not considered the best I've ever tried. The price was decent and the staff were neither helpful or helpless. I guess, customers who eat there are already aware with the menus and the situation, so they can set the expectation. For me, I would definetly want to come back here for the wonton. Kid-friendliness: The food is suitable for most kids as Lots of no spicy menu. Parking: Parking area is available but can be difficult to find one due to crowd above 11am.
Had the Lobster noodles promotion for dinner. Decently sized lobster for the amount paid. Lobster is Fresh and Juicy to the bite. Not overly cooked. Noodles are springy with a good QQ feeling very similar to those in Hong Kong! Soup is not too blend. Will be back to try the other noodles type when possible!
If you are looking for authentic Hong Kong style food, this is the restaurant you should try. Such a consistent Hong Kong style food quality restaurant for decade. Since the restaurant closed in CBD, this is the only one left in Melbourne. Their wonton and congee always on high quality and exactly what's offer in Hong Kong. There are 2 huge whole prawn per wonton with little bit of pork. There are hardly ever any restaurant had such good quality. Wonton is huge and price us very reasonable too. Sampan congee is another food that also taste exactly like in Hong Kong. Server with deep fried wonton skin for crunch. Congee is very soft and with lots of authentic ingredients too. Such a joy to enjoy all these food. Worth the drive from another side of the town over an hour. Plenty of tables inside. And plenty of parking nearby. Train station is just at the corner with walking distance. Will definitely come back again if possible. Price is very reasonable with this quality of food.
Overall, good fast service for food that will fill the tummy but won't break the bank. We had their "Signature Wonton in soup" and Char Koay Teow. Al dente egg noodles swimming in hot lightly flavoured broth with nicely cooked wontons are a comfort food to many. Their version is OK except for the slightly gamey pork taste. As for their CKT, it was almost encased in egg see pic with palpable "wok hei" and adequate chinese sausage. Just a tad more bean sprouts and addition of pork lard bits would've improved the dish.
So hard to find a restaurant that can satisfy my son who’s a very picky eater.. Definitely should try their lobster noodles which is cheap and good. Lots of delicious dishes on the menu as well.
Food was just ok for quick fix your staving stomach but definitely not authentic enough for a Cantonese taste bud. Wonton taste is not like this! The wonton soup base tasteless. Congee added msg, I feel so thirsty after eating their congee.Food: 2/5
For the most part, fantastic food! Beef Brisket with rice is the best I've ever had, the bbq pork buns are nice, the pan fried pork dumplings are fantastic! But the fried squid tentacles were powdery and flavourless. Will definitely be coming back for the brisket though!
