Went because of recommendation. Has a cafeteria feel in Asia, very simple and old decoration. Service is great, staff very attentive and friendly. Tried their crispy noodle with pork strips, stir fried seasonal veggies and salt and spicy chicken ribs. While I like that the veggies are fresh, both noodles and veggie dishes are too bland for me. Lucky their chili oil is nice with little shrimps in it. The chicken ribs was nice and crispy, juicy inside, but seasoned not evenly because some pieces not as tasty as others. The veggie dish was big in portion.
I didn't know this restaurant until my friend told me to go. Cause it's a bit hidden which located next to the tram stop. The dishes are really nice, ginger and shallot crab hit the spot! Sooooo good. And also if I'm not wrong its Golden salted egg ribs. It's the second best after the crab!! Prices are reasonable I guess. Foods came out really quick. Perfect for hungry tummy. Less point is just is very small, so they have limited seats and you have to share your tabel with other people. If you're confused where it is, it's just literally next to the tram stop. Also I suggesting you to bring cash there!
One of my fav Asian restaurant! The dishes are very tasty, very good portion sizes, and good value for money Had the Singaporean crab this time but the other styled crabs are very nice too!!
The positives-food came out quickly. Very nice sauce. The lobster however did not taste fresh to us. Texture was tight, flaky like dried chicken as opposed to tenderness and juicy-ness of fresh lobster. We did not finish our food. The lady who served us was very nice and listened to our concerns.
This restaurant is only good for simple dishes. Never ever order live seafood if they don’t dare to show you what you have ordered prior to cooking. We decided to try out this restaurant this afternoon due to the high ratings on google and the very competitive price for the seafood. We ordered the lobster with ginger and spring onion and mud crabs with foie gras snow crab wasn’t available today this afternoon and asked if they were live and requested to see the lobster and crabs prior to cooking, however the lady who took our order refused by saying the kitchen was too busy so they can’t bring out the lobster and crab to show us even though it was pretty much empty when we were there at lunch. When we asked if we could go into the kitchen to have a look at what we’ve ordered, she refused. We knew something was fishy but still decided to go ahead as we’ve already been seated and thought we should give the restaurant a chance to prove us wrong. When the lobster noodles arrived, they looked good but the taste was bland. The foei gras mud crab, however was way too salty. The flesh for both the crabs and lobster were also no longer firm. Even though we had lowered our expectation because of the unrealistically low prices , we were still very disappointed. The worst part was, the total price wasn’t cheap. I’d understand if the price reflects the quality but it wasn’t in this case. The actual lobster and crabs’ weight were definitely 30-50% less than what they actually charged us. We were charged 1.8 kg for the mud crabs but those mud crabs were definitely not 900g each. With the extra $20 for foie gras sauce per crab $40 in total, this small plate of crabs was close to $200. With this type of price, we were definitely better off going to other restaurants with actual live seafood on display. Disappointing.
We stumbled upon Wong's Lucky Bar when the restaurant that we wanted to dine at had a queue and we were too hungry to wait for a table. It is located at quite an unlikely location - next to the Box Hill tram stop. We were given a table right at a corner and behind me was a shelf full of boxes. We were given a jug of tea but it was cold, so we asked for a new jug. We ordered the char kuay teow, beef with rice noodles and the garlic fried pork chops. Both the noodles lack wok hei but tasted ok. The portion size was very generous. The garlic fried pork chop tasted good the first couple of mouthful but after that we felt that the meat was over tenderized and it felt more like eating pork fat as the texture was very soft and mushy when you bite into it, although the outside was crispy. Nonetheless, it was tasty. Overall, we felt that our meal was just average. Our meal came to $55 in total. The prices are very reasonable, given that most places would be charging at least $18 for a plate of noodles these days. It's a place to just get a quick meal and leave or a quick takeaway. Conveniently located next to the tram stop, you could literally hop off the tram and order a takeaway to bring home.
Had a great dinner with family n friends.. Fresh seafood.. Lobster n crab noodles are highly recommended.. great price too..
Super hole in the wall spot and very convenient. Hmmm I loveee seafood and we came here to demolish as a big group, so in terms of quantities def worth your penny. In terms of flavour very standard and mild, so don’t expect strong/rich chili or garlicky flavours. It’s a nice meal to taste once, but doubt if we will go again. PS: be prepared to go all hands in with all the shellfish !!!
The best mud crab dish in Melbourne. Have been a royal customer for years, the dining environment is like street food level but it never affects the taste and quality of food there. It’s great to see the same staffs for the last few years. We have to say goodbye to so many nice restaurants post COVID pandemic. They must have a secret to not just survive but maintain the same standards after such hard time. It’s a very lucky bar
Great food, reasonable price, standard service. I would've given 4.5 stars if I could though. The food are delicious. We spent a little bit expensive because we ordered live lobster .Food: 5/5
