For those who enjoy pig liver, kidney, intestines etc, this is a must-come. You have the option of having your noodles served dry at a small extra charge. Hot tea and cut chillies are unlimited. Place is clean and staff are efficient.
Not sure why the rating is so low! Have been coming here since 2003 or so and it's still great. I usually get noodle soup dishes and they haven't disappointed me yet. The Yong Tau foo with laksa soup base is a go to. It can be hard to get seated if you have a large group though!
Nice authentic food. The menu is very extensive.. Malaysian, Chinese, yumcha. I have only visited this place a few times and still going through all their favourite dishes. The place is usually very busy so expect to have to wait in the queue.
I’m here at this store right now. Just bought a potato currypuff. I found a black hair inside the currypuff which really disgusting. I complaint about it and the lady said most probabaly their staff’s hair that make currypuff so she replaced me with a new one. But sadly to say that their currypuff quality went down hill so badly. Tasteless and absolutely nothing like before. I’m really concern about the food hygine after that black hair in it.
This shop has been having a promotion "buy whole duck get half chicken free", I bought once end last year, it was OK, when I walked pass today, I bought again. Tonight, when I took half of duck from one of the containers, I could see 11 pieces of duck skin and bone, only 7 meaty pieces, the other containerthe other half duck had less duck in. This is different from last time I bought. When the guy was chopping the duck, I saw him chopped some pieces and put into a container, but he put that container to the bench behind him, I understand now what happened. TO STEVEN ZHENG: THE OWNER OF GRAIN ASIAN CAFE-- Please explain if this is your business idea or purely personal idea from the staff. HONESTY IS A KEY FACTOR FOR A BUSINESS, CUSTOMERS CAN BE FOOLED ONCE, THEN THEY WILL NOT COME BACK AT ALL. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS SHOP ANYMORE.
Best place for the Saturday morning Hong Kong style breakfast.
One of my frequent whenever I'm in boxhill Central and want to eat Yong Tofu, and get some snack take away while I'm at it. I love their Taro cake. They also have various meat bao or sweet buns. Their laksa soup used to be better though, now it's just too much coconut cream I felt bit yuck after the meal..
We ordered pork offal noodle soup and salted egg yolk buns. The serving of the noodle soup is quite generous and almost look like the picture. The salted egg yolk buns are delicious. It's small-ish but very flavourful. Be careful when you eat them though, because the filling are hot. If I'm not worried about my cholesterol, I would have ordered 2 more servings.
Had a great brunch there. Still feeling full 6 hours afterwards. The Malaysian style zongzi was very much like the Taiwanese one, which was a lovely surprise for us. The prawn rice noodle rolls were very delicious and the congee with century eggs and lean meat was my favourite.
Grain Asia is located within Box Hill Central and its popularity is well justified. My prayers and cravings were answered when I heard that the pork noodles there was quite solid. There’s very few Melbourne places which serve this quintessential Malaysian dish, but I think Grain Asia’s version is a respectable version. For first timers, you could just ask for pork meat slices and omit the pork liver, stomach and intestines. Man, the bowl was HUGE $14. I couldn’t even eat half on my own, so I think it’s best for two people to share this. The mince pork was tender, well seasoned and reminiscent of how they do it at home. I found that the pork soup broth errs a bit on the sweeter side, but is jam packed with a pork after taste. Was such a slurrrrrrrp worthy meal. We also took away some Yong tau foo and they were delicious with noodle soup. Highlights were the okra, chive fish paste, beancurd skin with fish paste and tofu! best to air fry the fried beancurd for the extra crisp
