To anyone that is traveling to New Zealand, If you are planning on renting a vehicle do yourself a favor and DO NOT choose thrifty, they will try and drain every cent out of you as possible!
In Feb 2017 I rented a Hilux for 2 weeks, it had a few scratches on the front bumper pretty much under the vehicle and we copped a chipped windscreen which there was nothing we can do, I've been charged $1070 for repairs, mind you over $300 for the windscreen because apparently the chip was to big to repair, same goes for their service which is terrible also, so just a heads up but i highly recommend against Thrifty and to choose someone else and ask questions especially about chipped windscreens!  I used a smaller mob the second time i went and they were fine with chipped windscreens which was lucky seeing that we copped 3 in 7 days. Do your friends and family a favor and share this as i would hate to hear other people have copped it as well !
