Topnotch location, just by the Harbour, next to Salamanca Place. The room, very well appointed Harbour view. Convenience of the guests were truly prioritised. Clean smelling carpet and almost new towels. Fully automated, including the blinds and curtains. Pillows were excellent duck down!nCan't fault the service in any way. Will definitely stay again when in Hobart.
Booked in for one night and upon arrival at 3 pm we were informed that the previous guests will only check out around 4 pm and the room would not be ready until after 5. The only thing that they originally offered was free parking and a voucher for 2 free drinks.nnI was ropable and I was so angry that I fumed out of the hotel. My husband, who needs an afternoon nap due to medical issues, agreed to a lesser room.nnHe got up to the room which was next to the elevator and the maids closet and, even he wasn’t happy.nnWe didn’t get into the room we had booked until 5:15 and from there, things did improve. Perhaps it was the complementary bottle of wine which they brought up.nnWe had a tasty drinks at Mary Mary’s followed by a lovely dinner at Peppinas.nnIn the middle of the night I woke up and realized that the reason the room wasn’t ready was BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF STAFF. I mean, come on…. If you know you have guests arriving at 3 pm, why the hell would you allow a 4 pm check out.nnSO NOW WE ARE ANGRY BECAUSE THEY LIED TO US.
My wife and I enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing and memorable five-night stay at The Tasman in Hobart from December 23–28, thanks to the many wonderful team members who provided warm, friendly, and welcoming service throughout our stay.nnThe exceptional service began even before we arrived. Concierge Juan confirmed a room upgrade based on my Lifetime Titanium Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy — one of the top five upgrades I’ve received in more than 25 years of Elite membership. Thank you, Juan.nnOur room was outstanding: a spacious suite with a separate bedroom and a generous lounge complete with a gas fireplace. The bathroom featured dual basins and a separate wet room with both a shower and a large bathtub — perfect after long days walking around exploring Hobart.nnThe bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable, and the linen was clearly of high quality.nnChristmas Lunch was a standout, with an eleven‑course menu and matching wines that were exceptional. Sommelier Tim curated a wide range of wines to suit every palate, and the entire experience offered remarkable value for money.nnAcross our stay — and for the final three nights, for our two close friends who joined us — we consistently felt treated as valued guests rather than just customers. While many team members contributed to this, I would especially like to thank Anand, Rey, Sheila, and Etienne.nnHaving worked in hospitality during my university years, I learned that while tasks can be taught, passion, pride, and enthusiasm cannot. Every team member we encountered demonstrated these qualities and clearly took pride in being part of The Tasman team.nnGeneral Manager Carolyn Smith leads with a hands‑on approach we saw this ourselves, and it shows in the exceptional service culture throughout the hotel.nnThank you, Ms Smith, and thank you to every team member who made our stay so memorable.
The hotel presents itself as a luxury property, obviously the price we paid for the Saturday stay said so, but the overall experience fell somewhat short of that standard.nnThe room was relatively small. While the bathroom itself was spacious, it lacked features typically expected in luxury hotels, such as a double vanity or a bathtub. Cleanliness also needs improvement — the basin drain area was noticeably dirty, which was disappointing for a hotel positioned at this level.nnBreakfast was one of the more positive aspects of the stay, offering a reasonable range of both hot and cold options. The coffee and bakery items were particularly enjoyable.nnService felt uneven. The welcome at the entrance and breakfast service were friendly, but the check-in experience was rather minimal and did not reflect the level of attentiveness one would normally associate with a luxury hotel.nnThe most noticeable issue during our stay was the shower. Water pressure was quite weak, hot water took a long time to come through, and the temperature never became very hot. While it was manageable during a March stay, unsure if in Tasmania’s colder winter months. In addition, despite the generous bathroom space, there was no practical place outside the shower to hang a towel, making the design feel somewhat poorly considered.nnHardly for me to recommend to my friend or consider re-visit.
I’ve always enjoyed Marriott hotel stays as a Platinum Elite member but staying at the Tasman has exceeded my expectations.nnFrom the checkin staff, to the valet, to the staff that came to check promptly on the room when we enquired about the aircon. Everything was top notch. I was also unwell on the second day with a throat infection and messaged the hotel through the app for extra water bottles, which they not only promptly delivered but also recommended a nearby GP.nnLastly, we enjoyed the breakfast. Coffee and eggs orders were taken at the table, which was efficient. The spread available was modest but sufficient and tasted good. We had really good service on the two days we were there which made our experience that much more comfortable.nnSpecial shoutout to the lady who seems like the supervisor wearing a green cardigan today. She not only got her hands dirty by clearing plates, while also being attentive to our needs and the other guests needs, but also to her fellow team members as we overheard her offering help and reminding them to be careful of hot items. That was really fantastic and the sign of a great leader which is reflected in how the team member seemed genuinely happy to be working there :nnThank you to the team for taking care of our bags, retrieving our car from the valet, and loading the car for us upon check out.nnWill recommend and definitely stay here again.
