A slow-moving tragedynnFOODnPeppina Pantry breakfast: 4 years ago, I said that the $45 Peppina pantry experience would not work. And I was correct. Now it has been vastly scaled down in the worst way. My previous review is here.nnI have put some before and after photos here but what particularly appalled me, and I still can’t get my head around is the breakfast condiments such as Vegemite and peanut butter in jars with knives in them for people to help themselves. Yes, you read right. Open jars of spreads on display with knives stuck in them in a 5-star hotel. Previously they were all little jars of jam and vegemite that you could grab, which is usually the case for all 5-star hotels and restaurants.nnFrom a hygiene and sanitation point of view it wasn’t a good look for a hotel that markets itself as luxury..nnOUR ROOMnnWe stayed in a Tasman Double room which was adequate.nA few things to note, there are no menus in the room, everything is on the TV and not easy to find. The mini bar was also abysmally small in comparison to our last visit.nnElectrical issues: As before we had issues with the electrics in our room. Within 30 mins of checking into our room, the blinds came down, the curtains closed, and the lights turned off without warning. I was in the bathroom, and my daughter was sitting on the bed. Neither of us were touching the wall panels controlling the lights & blinds situated on either side of both beds. The hotel sent an electrician who said he would tell the Manager in charge and that was it. Heard nothing our entire stay. We were only there for 4 nights and didn’t fancy moving so we left it, but still, this is a 5 Star hotel.nnRoom service charge: We were charged $25 for room service delivery. Which was utterly appalling and wasn’t listed on their TV menu.nnRoom Cleaning: unlike last visit the room was not cleaned on Sunday which was a surprise. And when we did arrive back at 3pm one day, the cleaner was inside and told us to basically go away and wait elsewhere. At 3pm.nnMary Mary bar:nThe bar menu has changed since our last visit and wasn’t as interesting. They are also closed on Sunday night. The ambience of the bar is now gone unfortunately. The staff couldn’t have cared less. I expect better than this.nnCONCLUSIONnnFor a 5-star luxury hotel there are just so many things lacking. There were no special touches, no bed turn down, no chocolates on the pillow, none of the touches one would and should expect at a luxury hotel. No one cared that our hotel room had a malfunctioning wall panel. There is no pool, sauna or spa. And don’t start me on the Peppina Pantry Performance or the outlandish costs of eating at the restaurant.nnThe vibe since our last visit has completely changed. It was abundantly clear to me that Marriot is cost cutting at the hotel because many things have either been removed, stopped or downgraded – nothing opened on Sunday, no room cleaning on Sunday either and the offerings in the rooms were decidedly dull and lacking. The Marriot markets The Tasman as a luxury hotel, part of their Luxury Collection. And it is absolutely not luxury.nnAs always, the reception and concierge are great but that’s as far as it goes. Nothing else at this hotel is worth the money. It’s sad because this hotel held such promise on our first visit after they opened just 3 months prior.nnA slow-moving tragedy and a downward spiral is how I would describe the feeling I got during this stay. Stay at your own peril.
My family had a wonderful stay at The Tasman Hotel. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The rooms are spacious, modern, and very comfortable, making it a truly relaxing place to stay. The only small downside is that it can be a bit noisy at night, which light sleepers might notice. I would especially like to highlight Luke. He is incredibly professional, always greeting us with a warm smile, and handling everything with great care and attention. His friendliness and professionalism truly made our stay even more enjoyable. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this extraordinary hotel to others.
We had a truly wonderful stay at The Tasman. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, and the property itself is stunning, with beautifully maintained buildings. The dining experience was outstanding, with restaurants that exceeded expectations. We were delighted to receive an upgrade to one of the finest rooms I have ever stayed in. As a long-time Marriott guest, formerly a Platinum member for many years and now a Gold member. I was thoroughly impressed with our experience and look forward to returning.
Just completed overnight stay at the Tasman. The staff were all lovely. The room was their cheapest but still had plenty of space, views of the water and everything felt high quality, very new and very clean. Had drinks in their cocktail bar, great atmosphere and awesome selection of drinks. Didn’t have dinner in the restaurant but ate breakfast there the next morning. Probably the best hotel breakfast I’ve had in a long time.
The Background:n- Stayed for 5 nights in September 2025n- Voted one of the world’s 50 Best Hotels in 2034n- Not the most luxurious hotels I have been in but it’s definitely comfortable.n- Front Desk, Concierge and Receptionist are very friendly and efficientnnThe Good:n- Beautiful rooms with high ceiling and plenty of space in the roomn- The closet has a LOT of hangers which are useful when you are traveling with 2 boysn- The buffet doesn’t have a lot of selections but what they do serve is quality ingredientsn- The buffet which is also a restaurant called Peppina is beautiful and very relaxing to enjoy your breakfast inn- The gym, while on the smaller side has dumbbells and cable machine and quite a number of treadmills. Pretty much all you need to keep up with your fitness needs while traveling.nnThe Bad:n- I found it difficult to ask anything to be sent into the room. Things are either very slow or didn’t come at alln- During one of our breakfasts, one of the glass cup broke while my son was drinking milk. Fortunately, he did not swallow or bit the broken pieces. Obviously we were surprised and panicked. We got most of the broken bits out of his mouth and at this point a few tables next to us already saw it. We told one of the servers about it and her response was simply “oh, does he need anything?” A few minutes later, the same server came and asked us if she can see the broken bits and cup. She then said she will take it away and that was that. We were not asking to be compensated or anything of the sort, but their reaction made us feel like we were being swept under the rug. Even a simple “are you ok?” would have been fine.nnThe Conclusion:n- Other than the breakfast incident above, the hotel was comfortable and provides all the facilities that you need. The breakfast could do with more selections but whatever they have to offer probably won’t disappoint you in quality.
