Stopped by The Local on a whim - I wanted to have lunch with a view of the ocean and this place had empty tables on the patio. (We arrived 5 minutes after they opened) The owner was friendly and chatted while we took our time ordering and gave good food recommendations and good island advice. It is decently priced - we ordered Snapper and chips, a burger with three extra toppings, a potato fritter, a cola, beer and ketchup for $46. The food was brought out to our table wrapped in paper like traditional takeaway. It was delicious!!! Best burger I’ve had in awhile!! The snapper and chips were also delicious! I read a few reviews that said the chips were on the small side - it didn’t seem that way to us because we ordered like they were a side at a restaurant rather than a scoop everyone eats from. I’d eat here again no problem. Nice owners, great food, amazing views.

Will never eat here again. The staff member that took my order attempted to persuade me to purchase a drink. I declined and clearly stated that I had brought my own bottled water. The staff member then assumed I was sneaking alcoholic beverages in my bag from outside the cafe. I offered to show the staff member that I clearly only had a bottle of water. The staff member reiterated that outside beverages cannot be brought into the cafe. In the end the staff member clearly did not understand that I simply had bottled water, which later the employee recanted and stated it’s ok to have bottled water. I felt singled out and wrongly accused. I should’ve cancelled my order and gone elsewhere. Poor service and no apology!

Whether you're going for the fish n chips or the fish sandwich, it's all great. Huge portions and I can see why The Local is actually favoured by the locals I know. They've got one or two basic NZ beers on tap which you have to order from a different counter. Seating is a bit limited inside and out for the common crowd size. One toilet in the back, kind of through the kitchen which isn't really pleasing but at least they have one.

I placed a large order on a Saturday night so thought I would give plenty of time for them to be organised- I called giving two hours notice of our order which I thought would be sufficient. The order was late which I was willing to forgive but then it all went down hill from there. Firstly, we placed an order for cheeseburgers with no beetroot- the burgers turned up including beetroot but had no meat pattie... I’m not sure how this was unclear. The staff were incredibly flustered and when we were waiting for them to bag up our order the man there said “I just want you to leave! With love though.” Considering I ordered over $200 worth of food I would not expect this kind of service.

Nice for a grab ... Not fancy ... Not bad ... Just average. Nice seating is limited... Attention is standard ... Would I come back ? I don't know ....
