Story

Established in 1875, The Lake View Hotel has been an iconic part of Ballarat for generations. Once one of thirteen Hotels that lined the banks of Lake Wendouree, The Lake View Hotel is the only one that remains.

As the decades have past, The Lake View Hotel has been a constant throughout the ups and downs of life around Lake Wendouree.

In August 2012, The Lake View Hotel begins a new era. Whilst respecting the significant heritage of this establishment, a complete renovation has delivered a stylish, contemporary venue to be enjoyed for many years ahead.

This restaurant is cross the road from Lake Wendouree and you can see the lake from the dining area. The place was packed and at first got my expectations high but the food was pretty average and no standout flavors. I was tempted to order the kangaroo steak but I didn’t because the menu said “ prepared medium rare” and I like my steak medium well. I ordered the chicken Parmigiana which was pretty blah, I ate it because I was hungry, the fries were really good and fresh. My son had the chicken nuggets and ate it all. My aunt found the beer battered Barramundi  to be good. I had a latte and it was really good.nSo if you hungry and don’t care about fine dining and just want something to eat, go for it otherwise dine somewhere else. Service was fine and the bathroom were clean.

We went to this restaurant twice on our short trip to Ballarat. The kangaroo steak, scotch fillet are highly recommended. Family-friendly restaurant right next to lake Wendouree, a lot of parking. Will definitely visit again.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception here and the staff were so lovely and flexible. We had late minute changes due to late responses and people getting crook. The staff took it in their stride and adjusted to them flawlessly. The food was amazing, and the overall atmosphere of the day was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a friendly team to work with. Thank you so much for making our wedding an amazing and fun day/night.

A very enjoyable lunch on New Year’s Eve before returning to Melbourne. Highly recommend the kangaroo steak which was cooked to perfection.
