Came here after having been dismissed by the bored waitress in the café next door ("kitchen is closed" at 14:01). At the Espy they were pleased to help, wiping down the seats so that we could sit outside after a rainshower. We both had salads which were delicious and with interesting flavours. Restrooms were basic but clean. Recommended.

Have been numerous times,as we are residents in this wonderful town, but recently I have been disappointed in the last two visits at The French Fig. Hubby and I went for lunch and I had a wrap. Viewable ends, cut in half and tied with twine, looked great but the last third of each end was empty, no carrot, lettuce anything. Tasted lovely but I don't like to pay for fresh air. On the LAST visit, we went for afternoon tea. I ordered the Gluten Free Plum cake, delicious. I asked for yoghurt on the side. It arrived with nothing. No problem, mistakes happen. Told waitress delivering cake. She apologized and said she would get some for me. We waited patiently, thought she must be busy, so I went to fetch it myself. No customers at counter, waitress and one other employee using their cellphones for whatever and they didn't acknowledge me standing at the counter and carried on but the young lady making coffee kindly stopped what she was doing and assisted me and apologized for the mistake. I'm not a complainer usually but I won't be back. We regularly walk to town for lunch, morning or afternoon tea, on average 3 times a week, there are plenty more places to go.

We really enjoyed our breakfast at this cafe with a freat view of the sea front. Next time I'm whitianga, i'll definitely will be back ;)
