Any stay in Whitianga should involve a minimum of one drink or some food, or both, at Smitty's on Albert Street. It was a Friday and we were just overnighting, so before dinner, we went for a quick drink at Smitty's, which turned into a couple, as we simply had to stay and play 'Spin the Wheel'. Sadly we didn't win, but even as obvious Brits, were made to feel so welcome.nnThe beer selection was great and I also couldn't help noticing Espresso Martin on draft....what an idea that is !nnAs I said, we were eating at our place the Beachside comes highly recommended by the way - see separate review, we didn't stay for food, but there is a big kitchen and a look at the menu and a quick peek at what was coming out for others gave me the warm and fuzzies; would have no issues recommending it on that basis.
A true Sports Bar, big screen TV’s showing a range of sports, a pool table, betting facilities and a busy bar.nThe food was excellent and the beer was great too.nLots of quirky decornPlenty of patrons seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere
We had a fantastic meal! The service was great and the atmosphere and sports memorabilia was amazing! Highly recommend a visit to Smitianga!
Amazing rib eye steak cooked perfectly to my order with fries, salad and sauce. It was honestly one of the nicest steaks I have had in ages.nnI loved the ginger beer both alcoholic and non alcoholic and my other half enjoyed his Maxs Gold beer.nnService with a smile and treating each customer like family is why this place is always busy when we go past.
I go here often for lunch. They prepare one of the best steaks in town. My favourite is the Flinstone which is a large ribeye ALWYS cooked to my perfection medium rare. Great salads and enjoy the Thai Beef Salad. Beer is always super cold. Great sports bar
