Since Sydney Tools opened in Fyshwick I’ve been a loyal customer, spending 10’s of thousands there.nnThe store has gone to the dogs. It’s very easy to walk in, try and find something or when you do an actual price and walk out without even being noticed by the many staff.nnBack to Total tools and I must say the service there is mint.
My recent visit here was a pleasant one, largely due to a very warm welcome and great customer service - that was provided by Danny. His high degree of technical knowledge about tools / construction is complemented by a friendly demeanor and a good sense of humor. Very easy guy to deal with, you can see straight away that he takes a lot of pride in his work.
**Update** I have now been contacted by Sydney Tools’ NSW State Manager, who apologised for how the Fyshwick store handled this matter and advised that the issue has been escalated with Makita for immediate refund approval. I appreciate that response and the effort to resolve it. My concern remains that the matter was not handled appropriately at store level in the first place, particularly given the seriousness of the safety incident.nnI bought a Makita HS0600 circular saw from Sydney Tools Fyshwick in November 2025. After only limited use, the saw caught fire during normal operation while cutting 90mm recess' into timber beams, which is exactly the sort of work this saw is supposed to handle. It was abrupt, unsafe and genuinely frightening.nnWhen I first returned it to store, the initial staff member was helpful and said they would inspect it and contact Makita. But when I followed up via phone with another staff member, I was told it could take around two weeks just for inspection, then longer again for Makita to decide what to do. When I explained I needed the saw to finish an active job and raised my consumer rights, the response became rude and dismissive.nnI was effectively told my options were to wait or take it somewhere else for repair. That is not an acceptable response for a tool that has caught fire during normal use, particularly one only a few months old. A power tool catching fire is a serious safety issue, not a routine repair matter.nnVery disappointed in how this was handled. I expected better product support and a far more professional understanding of basic consumer obligations.nnI and my team will not use Sydney Tools again.
I was sold a product that was not the correct item for my intended purpose. I contacted the Sydney Tools store and head office to explain that I had been supplied the wrong product. Despite the item being unused and in brand new condition, Sydney Tools did not refund the item or replace it with the correct product.
Dropped off a tool which failed under warranty. Took over 3 months to repair without an ETA able to be provided. Tool failed again immediatley. Requested refund, which they refused and was told to take it up with the manufacturer which is actually the vendor's responsibility. Took another 2 months to get a refund with contual chase ips required. Absoloute shitshow. Buy elsewhere - most places price match.
