Loved everything about this place ... fabulous asset to Hobart. Ate at the restaurant and went to a movie after perusing the bookshop. What a great venue. This is my second visit while visiting Hobart for 8 weeks and I will highly recommend this historic experience.

Excellent place. Very nice theatre and should be even better when the additions are complete. North Hobart also is a restaurant mecca and is as good as anywhere. We went to Willing Bros. for a bite to eat before the movie and thoroughly recommend it. Very good tapas menu.

Unlike the large Village cinemas, the State Cinema is contemporary and boutique in style and class. The cinemas are smaller in size with comfortable seats giving it a more personal feel. As well as the big movie releases (including 3D), the State Cinema is the place for award winning art and foreign movies. There is also a restaurant in site and is popular for coffees and cake. Finally, the bookshop completed the experience. Parking during weekdays could be a problem due to very limited spots at the Cinema. Wignall St (2 blocks away) has all day parking.

Initially disappointed that we were going to see blockbuster The Last Jedi in the Lounge Room, but it was an excellent room with good acoustics. Screen was a little small, but we had a great experience. Easy to miss the building though - there's no street sign.
