Spent almost an entire morning with my young daughter in the pool, on a week day (we were visiting from Australia - so no worries with the shool holiday absence...) recently. It was absolutely brilliant: water temp somewhere around the 30 degree C mark, very little overhead cloud to speak of, and only a very, very light on-shore wind (breeze is a better term) to knock the top off what was a brilliant autumn day in Dunedin. The pool was not, as you'd expect mid-week, crowded, though there were enough folks in there enjoying their lap-swimming to make up the numbers. The chaps who were controlling the pool-deck were brilliant - super, super happy to help out with my daughter and making sure she was getting all the floating pool aids (etc) and more than happy to stop and chat about the pool, and all things Dunedin, with me. Food was very reasonably priced in the attached cafeteria, and you can sit there for hours and watch the surfers doing their thing on the break that is, literally, only metres away from the pool's eastern wall. Put it this way: from this vantage point (of course, depending on things like the tide and weather conditions) you can get a brilliant broad-side view of the surfers catching their waves as they paddle into them, stand up and watch them surf the entire face. It was brilliant. The pool also has scorching hot showers (OK, maybe I had them pumped up as high as I could. Point is, there's PLENTY of hot water for a shower), and the price to enter was very reasonable. From memory, the St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool only opens during the summer/early autumn months, so I'm tipping there's zero activity there over winter. Anyway, if you like a dip in what is a salt water pool, and you prefer that dip to be in water that is close to a warm bath's temperature, then get into this. I'd be really surprised if you walked away disappointed. Cheers Tony

Hotpool was closed when we turned up today. Pools looked dirty with seagulls playing (and crapping) in them The toilet was also very dirty and swarmed by God knows how many hundred flies. Judging from the appaling number of dead flies on the toilet floor, it looks like it's never been cleaned. Wanted to have food here but left instead because was disgusted by the filthy loo.

Pool wasn't too crowded, perfect day and the pool was a perfect temperature. Very affordable and definitely will come back 😊

Wonderful pool whatever the weather, fantastic setting right next to the sea, watching the surfers go past you. The water is lovely and warm, and the Cafe is great too.

Great outdoor, salt water swimming pool. Friendly staff, lots of flooding aids for kids you can borrow plus flippers. Swimming lanes plus general play area. Also a kids paddling pool. They don't take credit cards though.
