We chose this school for year 8. After being at a local catholic high school for year 7. This school is by far so much better. So far my daughter is enjoying the people and classes. Especially their netball program. The teachers are so so, however the principle is lovely. OVerall a great school.
For a school that prides itself on having a no bullying policy there is a lot of bullying at Springwood When I was there I was bullied non stop for three years by students I hadn’t even spoke too for being happy and having friends that cared about They never got any real consequences after i reported them about a dozen times instead they just got a slap on the wrist and let go to torment people more Now that I’m gone they have moved on. To my friends that I care about and are some of the reasons i didnt kill myself because they had ruined my mental health. I had come home crying on multiple occasions because of one group of students who bullied me since term one of year seven for having “weird interests” or “weird hobbies” just things that made me happy. They would search up my social media to make fun of me and show their friends, they ended up spreading it around the grade in year eight just to make me feel worse about myself for doing something that made me happy and helped me find a group of people who genuinely cared about and liked me. People that I care about are getting made fun of for no reason now that im gone and they lost they’re target I am being told on a Daily basis that the bullying is continuing after I left from the same students aimed at my friends who never spoke to them for any reason other than to try and stop them from bullying me. I never got any evidence because they always acted in a group and never turned theyre backs on each other because they know that if they did they would all get in trouble because they all did the wrong thing. I got gum thrown at me on multiple occasions, stuff stolen, stuff broken, i have been recorded with out my permission, had stuff thrown at me like food, paper ect ,my education suffered greatly because they were always loud, obnoxious and downright rude. Every time I stood up for myself I was the one who got in trouble for “being disruptive or disrespectful”. one of the special needs teachers ms galos was a substitute for my English class, my school bag broke and I was being called stupid for not “solving the problem” when the “solution” wouldn’t have worked so I didn’t do it, they where talking about me in class so loud I could hear them on the other side of the room The teacher was one row infront of them and just ignored them until I stood up for myself by telling them to be quiet because it’s not they’re problem or business that my bag broke, they got mad at me for “continuing an old issue” and I told them off for blaming me for them bullying me, the teacher stood infront of me to “solve the problem” which just made it worse. One of these students started bullying me during her first week at Springwood because she was told stuff that simply was not true, I had never spoken to this girl I had only ever smiled in passing. I get a bad reputation for standing up for myself when all they get is a slap on the wrist.
This school is the worst school i have ever been too. Bullying, racist comments, homophobic remarks, and people discriminating against autistic people. The teachers do absolutely nothing to help students with any of these problems, when i’ve told my teacher about the racist comments one of my classmates have said, that teacher did nothing , no lecture, no talk. Nothing. I have been screamed at , i’ve even gotten rocks thrown at me. I’ve been called multiple slurs because i am apart of the LGBTQ community. There is literally a club at springwood that is for lgbtq+ students rights. All the teachers and principle care about is making the school look good. None of the the teachers, principles and even the guidance counsellor care about the students mental well-being at all. I’ve had multiple breakdowns in class because none of the teachers get the students to be quiet. My class is constantly screaming and yelling, and chucking stuff across the room. The staff care more about our uniform and shoes than anyone being bullied. There’s not a day that goes by where i don’t get called out for my uniform being wrong, my uniform is fine. I do not recommend sending your child/children to this school. It is awful . Your child will be yelled at and will even get stuff thrown at them. I’ve only met like one teacher who actually let me leave the classroom because of how loud it is. Even when i told the teachers i had sensory issues and had to wear my noise cancelling headphones they told me multiple times to take them off. They are essential for me. I’m moving school immediately. My mum even doesn’t like this school. don’t send your child here, they will struggle immensely.
I am a student at Springwood State High School, a year 7 student found himself in a sticky situation when a mischievous classmate decided to play a prank. As Jake was innocently walking through the crowded hallway, a molten hot honey bun came flying towards his face. The sweet treat made a splat against his cheek, leaving a sticky mess. But instead of getting upset, Jake's quick thinking turned the situation around. He grabbed the honey bun remnants and playfully chased after the prankster, smearing the gooey treat on their face. Laughter echoed through the halls as the two friends turned their sticky encounter into a memorable moment. From that day forward, the legend of the Honey Bun Prank lived on at Springwood State High School, reminding everyone to find humor even in the stickiest of situations.
Definitely one of the worst schools in Brisbane please do NOT ! send you child here unless you want them to be bullied and beaten up, I went to this school from the start of year 7 to the start of year 9 and hated it all they way till the end. I had people bully me about my appearance and how I talked and when I went to go tell a teacher they wouldn’t do anything about it and the principal only cares about what the school looks like on the outside not on the inside, I’ve had rocks thrown at my head and sticks thrown and me. I’ve watch people throw rocks at windows and I’ve seen multiple windows been broken throughout the school. And their are constantly people judging you, this is definitely one of the worst schools I’ve ever been to..
went here for 3 years. the guidance councillor does not care about student's mental health or wellbeing. neither did most teachers that i tried to reach out to. i left while the new principal had just got there, my last few days there i wore black hair with blonde strands at the front and i was sent to detention for the rest of the school day it was 9am and threatened with suspension if i came back with it. a year 12 student was in detention at the same time as me because she had red hair. she tried to tell the new principal that she was missing important block exams and the principal did not care and tried painting her as being 'aggressive'. i was bullied for a short while here and the teacher who witnessed it many times just threatened the student with detention every time but never actually gave her one. this school kills creativity and individuality. when i first went here i felt like i could express myself and have fun at school, as time went on, ridiculous strict rules were enforced and it killed many students identities. do better springwood.
Honestly, the principal isn't that bad, I just think she needs to focus more on the education of the students more than focusing on what is going on around us. Like the toilets were getting ''Renovated" but all they did was paint over it. The women's toilets are always closed but the men's are always open. We only recently got bins for hand tissue paper but they have no liner or anything. They also do not have sanitary bins in all the women's toilets and I just think they could do better. The teachers need to take bullying more seriously also. [ This is just my opinion on things : ]
I went to this school for my whole of high school years and never had a problem with studying there until the new principal came she doesn’t care about the kids mental health and how they feel and only cares about trying to make the school look good by adding fancy buildings and covering up the kids individuality and creativity. i feel bad for the future kids going to this school cause i know that she only cares about the school image then the education and basic school resources. the amount of times she lied to parents about what she was making her students do was so unacceptable, basically put kids in in-school suspension FOR FACIAL HAIR OR BLACK SOCKS and told parents that they were doing there school work and wouldn’t be behind on anything. but every kid that got put in there was just giving a cross word puzzle, there were grade 12s in there before there block exams so they were missing out important revision. I hope parents see this before deciding to put there kids at this school cause i can promise you they will strip every individuality from your kid they can.
The school has so much potential, they got a new principal, they seem to have carrying teachers, BUT they have no resources. I picked the school for my children because they don't have the BYO laptops yet, but having no textbooks, no Power Points, no lesson notes is the downfall of the school. What started as a potential for my kids will end up being the reason to move to Rochedale. It is certainly not acceptable that my kids are performing much worse I'm not discounting their effort but the fact that I have no ability to help them as every time I ask for a resource I'm told it's not available is beyond my comprehension. We came from other schools and I have never experienced this lack of basic resource. Why did I pay the school fees?
Decent school however there is a lot of issues regarding students with drug use and more bullying than the average school. On the other hand there are many good teachers who are dedicated to helping the students complete their work in a timely manner.
