Emergency dept is terrible. We arrived there at 7pm and walked out without seeing a doctor at 11:15. The first duty nurse thought I was going to show her my wound in the groin in the waiting room. I felt degraded just by that attitude. People with a child were waiting for 5 1/2 hours and tried to ring the duty nurse to find out how much longer her little boy has to wait. There was no answer. Disgusting.!! I tried to ring at 11:15 and got the same treatment, no answer. Yet someone new walked in and the nurse was there quick smart. We were in the car by then and decided to go back to Ashford. The staff had no empathy at all. They were obviously busy but didn’t care about those waiting for many hours. My GP husband was with me and was also disgusted. He said if the people in the waiting room had been at his surgery, they would have been in and out within 1/2 hour!!! The hospital also sent my elderly mother home in a delerious state after influenza A. Consequently she was back in the RAH within days.. There is no locum service on the south coast that we know of and what about the thousands of people who descend there over the holiday period. The hospital can’t cope and the staff have become indifferent. SA Health needs a 24 hour surgery or at least a weekend surgery open till 9pm not at the hospital that caters for people who don’t really need to go to the emergency dept.

New emergency area with doctor on site know. Clean with moderate waiting times. Friendly staff

Excellent, your staff were very kind considerate and understanding,unfortunately I can only remember two names before my memory went pear shaped, they were Glenda and Dr. Bruce Perks. Sorry about the rest of you...you were all fantastic. A special thanks though to Bruce, I have followed your advice and I am now on medication for high blood pressure and will undergo further tests at Yankalilla, hopefully preventing the issues that you mentioned might occur.
