We ordered the nachos $29 and the fried chicken. The nachos could have used a bit more flavour in the sauce, as they felt a little bland overall. The fried chicken was fine, but for $22 we didn’t feel it really stood out or offered great value. Overall, it was an okay meal.
Used to enjoy Room for a Pony, but this visit completely changed that.nnWe were sitting outside mid-meal, enjoying a private conversation, when a waiter interrupted and asked if strangers could sit right next to us. There were plenty of other tables he could’ve asked, so we politely said no.nnHis response? Scoffing and saying “wow that’s crazy” before walking off. Genuinely one of the most unprofessional interactions I’ve encountered. Completely rude and unnecessary. If you’re going to work in hospitality, basic respect shouldn’t be optional. If a simple, polite “no” gets that kind of attitude, there’s clearly a bigger issue with staff training.nnFor reference, it was a tall waiter wearing glasses that noticeably magnified his eyes, so management should have no trouble identifying who it was.nnOn top of that, there’s a 20% public holiday surcharge, which might be understandable if the experience justified it, but it absolutely didn’t. My friend’s meal was overcooked, and the service was clearly below standard.nnWe raised it with management, and the solution offered was a free coffee which honestly felt dismissive given how inappropriate the interaction was.nnCharging extra while delivering worse service is wild.nnReally disappointing, especially as a regular. Won’t be rushing back.
If you’re like me and stumble across this place on Google Maps, you need to treat yourself!nnRoom for a Pony in North Hobart is definitely a place to visit. We loved every minute of it. The food was beautifully done—fresh, generous, and full of flavour—but the standout was an absolutely amazing Bloody Mary, easily one of the best we’ve had. What really made the experience special was the staff: genuinely friendly, welcoming, and attentive while doing what they do best – making sure that you enjoy your time here. A relaxed, happy spot we’ll definitely be back to.
Fabulous food and good size portions. Great diversity of food and flavours. Totally recommend the snickers milkshake!
Drinks were quite bland and underwhelming. Iced chocolates are kinda like my go to drink for a little brunch so I can tell a poor one when I get it. This one was small and bland and yet the price as other places. Food was actually really good. I had the shakshuka which was so flavour filled and my partner had the eggs benne which she loved. The part that let the experience down. Service. Although really friendly, extremely slow. We waited 43 minutes to be exact until we were served. Could we have gestured for them to appear? Maybe, but was just far too slow and killed the vibe for my partner and I, place was decently busy but this place are accustomed to that so still no excuse. Staff were really polite and friendly but yeah just took too long to be an enjoyable outing. Not going to say it’s bad or don’t go here. Just that you may wait a while.
